Does anyone have a music class for parents and babies in the Manhattan Beach that they like? There seems to be a lot to choose from and was wanting a referral....especially teachers you like. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi Julie:
I have taken my kids to Music Rhapsody in the Redondo Beach area since they were 5 months old. (They are now 4). I believe they also have classes in Manhattan Beach. They really like it and I can see a definite benefit from it. Our teacher is Ute Braun and she's wonderful. Being a musician myself, I wanted to take them somewhere where they will have a lot of fun. They also have a curriculum that builds on itself, so if they potentially became interested in continuing music more seriously, they could. You can take your child for a free demo class to see if it's compatible for you both. Though it's in Redondo, it's very close to Manhattan Beach. On the corner of Aviation and Grant.

My daughter and I started taking the Sign Language and Music class at Wondernation when she was about 6 months old. We love it and highly recommend it! The 2 teachers that we've had are both terrific. Sarah is super friendly and so sweet to the kids and Diana is absolutely magical.
They play the guitar, let the kids use different instruments, read a book, parachute time, etc. and use signs while singing.
Wondernation is on the corner of Rosecrans and Sepulveda, right behind the Chevron station that just got remodeled.

We took the music and signs class at Wondernation a few times, and loved our teacher, Dayyanah (sounds like "Diana"). She is a fantastic singer and musician, who is also great with the kids. We still sing songs from that class, over a year later!

I know there are music classes with the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd preschool, I believe the music is led by Mark Emerson, he has 3 young children himself.
The director of the preschool is Lisa Such, and the church is in Torrance, on Victor St. just off Torrance and Victor by the MacDonalds and Bishop Montgomery HS. (between Anza and Prospect.) Great preschool that has been full for over 40 some years. Give them a call. Good luck

i did music together for 6 sessions, almost 2 years with my daughter and loved it! the best thing i got out of it was having fun myself! and by bringing the music and fun home we ended up learning alot of great songs together. the CD's and music quality are wonderful... there's a cool set of 9 CDs (a new one each sememster) with music you can enjoy together for years to come. BUT i awesome teachers, who are no longer teaching. we had priscilla, a fabulous teacher (who left), and then adreanna, also excellent, who also left. the new teachers were a disappointment to me. but NAOMI is very good. the creative arts center is a wonderful venue.

music rhapsody CD's/music is so-so, rather cheesy but their classes are fun, interactive for the kids. i only did the demo class, then continued with music together. my 2 year now has music rhapsody classes at her school (mb preschool). and loves it. it is more typical kiddy music.

i've taken a music and signing class at wondernation as well, with darryl. my daughter had fun there too. typical kiddie fun music stuff. but i still preferred music together (MT), if only taking one music class. i like the CDs to bring home... the whole package...

the classes themselves at music rhapsody and wondernation are fun for the kids. in fact, it might seem like the kids enjoy those classes more. MT classes are more subtle, but the kids absorb wonderful music fundamentals there. again, the quality of the music is great with a focus on real music concepts, including interesting beats, rhythms, songs from other cultures.

my daughter is very musical now, and i know it helped that we took all those classes and made music a big part of our daily lives.

hope this helps!

Music Together is a fabulous program. You can sign up through the city of Manhattan Beach. There is a website to find our more about the philosophy of the program. Kym Johnson is the contact person for our area. I'm sure you can take a trial class before signing up.
