I am moving to Birmingham and need to know where to enroll my children and where to live. My ex husband is there and lives in Inverness, but heard that Mountain Brook/Vestavia had the best schools. He will be moving to that area next year as he works there and says that traffic is terrible in the Inverness area...Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I would agree with what your ex husband has written. The Homewood city schools usually rank highly as well.

There are a lot of great schools in this area. The Shelby County schools, Oak Mtn, Inverness and Chelsea are great! Hoover, Vestavia, Homewood.

There is a report card on the schools. Google oak mountain elementary school and look at the link for "report card". There should be a similar report card for all the schools.

Good luck!

Hoover has very good schools. Bluff Park Elementary is an excellent school.

We live in Inverness and love it, however I don't have to hit Hwy. 280 during the peak rush hour times. That might make a difference if you work. Oak Mountain Schools and Hoover Schools are great. Our children are zoned in to Hoover (Berry Middle and Spain Park High School) and it's excellent. Vestavia and Mountain Brook are wonderful also. You are basically very safe with the schools in the southern end of town. Shelby County School system is also very good. There are lots of back roads that you'll need to ask locals about and follow them. I rarely even hit 280. Happy Moving!!

Trussville City Schools (Paine Primary/Intermediate and Hewitt-Trussville Middle/High) are excellent schools. We moved to Trussville a year ago and chose Trussville because of the wonderful school system. We are about 30 minutes from Inverness and the traffic here is not bad at all. The schools are all brand new except the middle school and the teachers/principals are exceptional. The students, as a whole, are well-mannered, smart children who want to achieve. You do have to live inside the city limits of Trussville to attend their schools but it has been the best decision for us and we don't regret it one bit.
