Mom Seeking Advice About 10 Month Old Who Has No Teeth

Hello,
My Son will be 10 months old on the 7th of this month and he still does not have any teeth. I thought that he was teething because he was drooling at one point about a month ago, but still nothing. I don't even think he is teething because he does not really show any signs. Every once in a while he will stick his fingers in his mouth and he does not drool much at all. I'm starting to get worried. My first son who is now 2 years old had at least 2 bottom teeth by the time he was six months old. I did take my 9 month old to the Dr. when he was about 8 months old. I was told it was not a problem until he turned a year old. Okay, he will be one in July and it seems like something should be happening buy now. Has anyone else had this problem? What could be taking so long? My son loves to eat and does not seem to be losing any weight because of the fact that he has no teeth. But I am becoming anxious.
Any help would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

Neither one of my children-who are now 19 and 16-had teeth until their first birthday and beyond-I took them both to the dentist who did take x-ray's-and neither one of them had a problem. I believe that if we take them to the dentist too soon that they end up at the orthodontist too soon. At that time, they want them in braces way too early. Their mouths keep moving until they are adults, and some of the problems will correct themselves.

My first two (girls) didn't get their first tooth until they were 18 months old.... my youngest who is goin to be a year old now... got his when he was 8 months. I think i would be greatful to have it later besides the whole healthier deal because it has been a battle to get him to understand not to bit or chew on things. It seems like my girls understood right away maybe cause they were older.

I have a friend whose little girl didn't get her first tooth until somewhere between 11 months and a year. Some kids just get their teeth really late...they are all so different. Maybe you or their daddy had teeth that came in late also?? I know it's hard, but try not to be anxious. Mostly likely, everything is fine and they'll be in before you hit one year.

Every baby is different. I didn't get my first tooth until after my first bday-

I have 4 boys- my oldest got 2 in the same week at 6 months, my 2nd son got 2 in the same week at 9months, my third got 1 at 14 months and 6 in the same week at 18 months.

All 3 have normal teeth development now.

My 4 son is 5 1/2 months old and has got 1 front tooth, 1 incisor(eye tooth) and 2 molars by age 4 months.

So we have experienced teeth eruption all over the place- all within one family.

My peds told me that they only worry about it if weight is affected as well. He should still be able to eat effectively- I was able to eat hotdogs when I was little becuase I knawwed them to pieces (not recommending trying that but thats what my mom said) our peds did say teething biscuits helped the teeth to erupt so we have always used those.

Hope this helps- just relax it will happen.

Hi B.,

My daughter was just over 10 months old before she got her first tooth. I was always told that the later they get their teeth, the better. He will start losing teeth later as well. I dont think it's anything to worry about, but if you are still concerned, just call your Dentist and ask what his/her thoughts are on it.

I wouldn't worry, my daughter didn't cut her first teeth until she was 10 months old but it was like once she got one 3 or 4 more popped up within a week and we didn't even notice because she wasn't fussing, I found with them coming later the teething process was quick and painless, your baby's teeth will come in very soon, don't worry :)

B.- My little guy doesn't have any teeth either, and he is 9 months. when I was at the dentist the other day with my older son, I asked about it, and the dentist said it was fine not to worry. He said his own son didn't get a tooth until after 1 year old, and I know that I didn't get my first tooth until 16 months!! It should be okay, but if you are still worried, then ask your doctor again!!!

Dont worry : ) I had a friend who's baby had no teeth until she turned one year and then suddenly two little teeth popped up. You still have two more months before you can begin to get nervous. If he's eating well and all that then I really think hes fine.

My second child did not get her first tooth until one week before her 1st birthday!! I was nervous that she didnt have teeth, but they all came in after that. So his too will come. Hang in there! My youngest is 8 months old and he has no signs of gettting teeth any time soon. So it just depends on the baby. Have fun looking at that toothless smile while it lasts!

I would'nt be too concerned untill after the one year mark...besides that, I was always told that the longer they take to grow in, the stronger/healtier they will be.

there is nothing you can do about the speed that his teeth come in. I mentioned to my ped about my duaghters teeth coming in funny... and the dr. said they come in as they come in... and he is right... my duaghter is currently getting 5 teeth at one time.

She has had some cranky times with these 5 teeth.

Just be patietnt there is nothing that you can do about their teeth.

My oldest son, now 10 didn't get any teeth until 2 days before his first birthday. The dentist told me that since he got teeth later, that meant his adult teeth would come in later than normal....., thus the adult teeth are going to be healthier!! (less sugar on the adult teeth) He lost his first tooth later than everyone in his class too lol, so I saw what he meant by that.

B., Do not worry my now 4 year old did not get any teeth until 12 months which I worried the whole time too and was reassured that it will happen and it did, in fact I think it was better cause she teethed wonderfully, never fussy didnt seem to bother her at all so maybe it was that fact she was older, who knows bottom line it will happen just relax and enjoy those little gums in the mean time and no teeth brushing or getting bit...right~!! ;)

Hi B.,

My sister-in-law has 3 children. The first 2 didn't get any teeth until right around their first b-day (maybe even after) and the 3rd got his first tooth around 10 or 11 months. I wouldn't worry about it until the dr is concerned. The articles I've read even suggest the later the better since it's less food/sugar the teeth are exposed so they'll be healthier teeth in the long run. My 4 yr old had at least 2 teeth at 6 mos too, and now my 6 month old is just now starting to show signs of teething. Every child is different I guess. I would let the dr know though if he continues to lose weight. Hope that helps!

My twins are 10 months and still don't have teeth, their older sister didn't cut teeth until she was 10 months. My oldest had teeth long before that, so I just think it depends on the child. Looking into the twins mouth I can see that their gums are white and you can see out lines of the teeth (and have been for about a month) so I'm not worried about it. I understand wanting him to get them, but I wouldn't worry about it at all, my mom works for a dentist and he said the longer the wait, the better it can be. The mouth will be bigger and they should have enough room for all those teeth! They'll come, but not before they're ready too. Good luck!
