Mini Vacation in MI?

For various reasons, our planned trip to FL will be on hold and need to stick closer to home (New Lenox, IL). We would love to go somewhere for 3-4 days, withing 2-4 hour driving distance. Ideally, near a beach and activities to do for two children age 4. I've heard MI is a great option but just not sure where. Help is appreciated :)

St. Joseph, MI is very nice! It takes us about two hours to get there from Naperville. They have a really cute downtown area with lots of little shops. My kids always request a stop at Kilwin's for ice cream. :) Silver Beach in St. Joe is one of the best beaches I've ever been to! They have a great playground at the beach & a new "splash pad" that just opened last year. They also just opened a new Children's Museum right on the beach. It's small, but my kids loved it. Attached to the museum is an awesome new indoor carousel. The other nice thing about St. Joe is that it's sort of in the middle of a lot of great little small towns along Lake Michigan. You could easily drive to New Buffalo, Southaven, Saugatuck, etc. for an afternoon or dinner. Here's a link for some more information on St. Joe: http://sjtoday.org/site/

Wherever you decide to go, have a great & safe trip!

Like the other mom's suggested Frakkenmuth is a great place to visit. and if you like to shop Birch Run is right down the street from Frakkenmuth.Birch run is a outlet complex( stores such as Gap kids, Reebok, bath and body works, nike, old navy, jockey, etc) pretty any store you can think of. and Great Lakes Crossing is a good mall also. The Ann Arbor hands on muesum is fun also. In Detroit we have Belle Isle ( a big island with a big playscape an nature center( due to "budgets" the aguarium and larger zoo on the island is closed) but the island has lots of nature on it. We also have a Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Detroit. And the Detroit Zoo( in Royal Oak) is a really nice zoo. Royal oak is right outside of Detroit One straight shot there. And for adult fun we have 3 casinos. Oh and if you don't mind taking a 45 minute drive the Toldeo (Toledo, Ohio straught out I-75)Zoo is really nice. If you come here I hope you enjoy yourself! Good Luck

Lake Geneva Wi - There are parks along the lake front, as well as an indoor water park for the family to enjoy. Shops downtown are exclusive, but interesting and the food is good.
