Loose Tooth Won't Come Out

I'm almost 18 years old and I have a loose baby tooth that just refuses to come out. It's been loose for a while now and my adult tooth is already starting to come in and I'm way too scared to go get it pulled. All my teeth are straight and I don't want one messed up. When and if it falls out, will the adult tooth move and start to grow the right way? It's my canine tooth on my right side. Thanks! It's my front canine on my right side

What can I do next?

K., I guess it's possible for a baby tooth to still be there but you need to go to a dentist right now. If it "IS" a baby tooth it needs to come out asap!

Your adult tooth will, (if it's in the right position) resort the root of the baby tooth, and it will come out. I'm assuming this must be a molar at the back, as you are way too old to only now be having your front teeth come in.

If it hasn't come out by now it's not going to.
Normally the root of the baby tooth dissolves as the adult tooth develops beneath it.
If the adult tooth comes up to the side of it, the baby tooth root probably didn't dissolve or only partially dissolved.
Yep it will certainly mess up your adult tooth alignment plus the difficulty with cleaning around it means it can rot out your adult teeth.
It's no big deal to have it out.
They can totally knock you out or give you local anesthesia.
You might be a little sore for a few days but then it's over.
Kids (especially kids with expanders) has this happen all the time and they have the baby tooth (sometimes called shark teeth because they come in in front or behind adult teeth) extracted and it's easy.
If a 7 yr old can do this, you certainly can deal with it.

Just go to the dentist. The 1 second pinch of the shot of Novocaine will hurt more than the extraction. 1 second of pain is not worth messed up teeth.

There's no reason to be scared. My daughter (just turned 13) has had 6 teeth pulled for orthodontic reasons (all baby teeth)... it wasn't fun, but it really wasn't awful either. She had a front tooth (baby tooth) pulled when she was about 5 or 6 (?) because it just wouldn't fall out. Her permanent tooth had come in behind it, and I could never get a good enough grip on it to pull it out after that... and then I was also afraid I might damage the permanent one in the process since I'm not a professional.

I just took her in, the dentist yanked it, and that was that. No tears even. I don't even think he bothered with numbing it, b/c sometimes the numbing injection can be worse than that just pulling a little baby tooth--if the majority of the root is already resorbed. If the root is still all intact, then it will hurt and you'll want numbing to happen.

Talk to your dentist. He/she can reassure you of your options. They'll probably want to take an xray first to check out the root situation.

And do something soon. You don't want to end up not being able to properly clean the permanent tooth, nor end up with any sort of root damage resulting from waiting and overcrowding.

Good luck.

You can do this.

My daughter had a baby tooth that just did not want to come out. But it was not loose. When the tooth is loose, that means the root has started dissolving. The dentist had to pull her tooth out. She was scared about it but in the end she was fine. She said it was a lot easier than she thought. And yes, if that tooth blocks the adult tooth from coming in, it can end up going the wrong way.
Maybe an x-ray will reassure you when you see how the root is. It may be just a quick pull and done. For me the worst part of dental work is the shot to numb. I hate those.
