hi i have a question my daughter is 6 yrs old, and yesturday she fell off her bike and hit her mouth in the handle bars it looked so bad , she was bleeding alot.. we rinsed her mouth and seen her gums were cut open and her two front teeth seemed a lil loose... i took her to the dentist , he suggested we pull out the teeth due to possible infection... has anyone gone trough this?
is this the best thing to do? yes the dentist said the root/ nerve was damaged...i dont think he's a pediatric dentist...
help....
ok so i took her to a pediatric dentist. and he suggested we wait 4 weeks to see what happened.., and to see if the teeth would get h*** o* their own..Yesturday she had her follow up, shes doing so much better, the teeth hardened up on their own, and their was no need to pull them out...thanx for all your suggestions.....
Yes, I have been through this. My son had a skateboarding accident at 7 and his front tooth had to be pulled. He also later had to have a root canal because the dead root had to come out ( it was soooo dead, he didn't even need any numbing). It took a couple of years, but his permanent tooth came in perfectly. The permanent tooth will only come in when it should have, so you may have an opening for quite a while. Good luck!
OMG NO - do NOT let him pull the front teeth due to 'possible' infection. If she gets an infection then she can get antibiotics and it will clear the infection up.
The ONLY reason he should go ahead and pull teeth is:
1. her adult teeth are ALREADY SHOWING, the baby teeth were loose already and she would have lost them in the next month or so.
2. The root of the tooth/teeth is/are DEAD- if this happens the teeth will begin to turn 'grey' within the next day or 2.
If anything else he should leave the teeth in and let them fall out naturally, as they would have. You will notice that even though they are a bit loose now, they will 'tighten' as her mouth heals from the trauma.
If he pulls them now the other teeth will start to take up the space and this will cause BIG problems when her adult front teeth start coming in. He may want to pull and put in a spacer - I would NOT let him pull her teeth.

Hi, I'm sorry for her trauma, it's a hard thing. My daughter was 3-almost-4 when she fell on the table and knocked out two teeth and badly wrenched a third that had to be pulled. It was a horrifying experience but turned out ok. The pediatric dentist said to watch for the greying on the surrounding teeth like other moms have written, and if it set in it didn't necessarily mean they had to be pulled. That didn't happen and everything was fine.
The 3rd tooth that came out , we found out, was an "extra" tooth she had next to the two top front ones. She was fine from soon after, you'd never know what happened until she smiled.
I later happened on a great book called "Smile" by Raina Telgemeier at Target. It's in graphic novel (comic book) form and my daughter loved to read about someone else who had an accident; the main character had a bad fall that caused a lot of dental issues from 6th grade on. Google it, it's really good!

Get a second opinion. My son did the same thing at 3yo. His pediatric dentist said the only reason to pull them is IF they get infected. Otherwise, it's best for them to stay in because they help keep the jaw spaced properly.
They told me just to watch for a little "pimple" at the gum line as a sign of infection.
It's been 2 years. The tooth is dead, and has a gray tint to it, but is still in solidly and never developed infection.

I would go to a pediatric dentist and get a second opinion.
The same thing happened to our daughter when she was two, regular dentist said it was fine, we went to pediatric dentist who identified the root damage. We ended up with a root canal and crowns for her two front teeth and over a year later she's doing fine.

I would get a second opinion-was it a pediatric dentist? Did they do an xray? Did he say if the roots were fractured or anything? If there is a root fracture then they would pull them, but other than that they just usually have u come back in 2 wks eat a soft diet, watch for color changes or an abscess.I use to work for a pediatric dentist and if we pulled all the teeth that had trauma to them we would have alot of kids with no front teeth including mine :) LOL! L.
Here's a different opinion. The dentist went to school for X amount of years. They are professionals when it comes to teeth.
I would make sure it was a pediatric dentist but I would assume the teeth are coming out. If the roots are damaged her permanent teeth can be really messed up if the current tooth situation is handled badly. If you are not a professional X-ray technician you have no idea how badly they are injured and to what extent they will damage the gums, roots, and teeth right there ready to come very soon.
My daughter fell and her tooth was allowed to stay and the permanent tooth was badly damaged and she does not have a tooth there as an adult because the tooth was not pulled and ti hurt the permanent tooth.
I'm SO glad to read your update. I couldn't believe he would suggest that. My daughter also feel at age 2 and injured a tooth - including chipping it. Our dentist had us leave it in as long as possible. After a couple of years, she ended up having a baby root canal, but they still left the tooth. The said it was important to keep the place holder for the new tooth as long as possible. Finally the new tooth started coming in and the old one didn't fall out and they pulled it - no big deal.
Get a second opinion from a pediatric dentist and/or an endodontist.
