I want a obgyn(prefer female) and/or therapist that is helpful in this area. I had ppd with my first child and we are considering having a second. Has anyone out there had good support from their obgyn during your ppd that you could refer me to? Thanks!!

Hi. My obgyn is actually a family practice physician who does low risk deliveries. Her name is Christine Boylan. Her partner is Laurie Fisher. They both practice this way and cover each other's call. They are based at Menorah Medical Center. I've been with Boylan for over 10 years, two children, and she is super receptive to my needs, before I even know what's happening (having had some PPD myself). Good Luck!

My physician was wonderful with my ppd (although he is male). As a matter of fact, I suffered from acute depresstion since high school and when I mentioned it to my OB when I became preg and he told me that I was at an increased risk of suffering from depresstion both during my pregnancy and PPD. Sure enough it happened. He had me call as soon as I recognized it. I did and he had me come in right away. He did not push me right into meds but instead we came up with options of what I felt was best for me. He did give me the option of drugs and I think I started taking them but they made me feel extremely crappy so I stopped and we just watched what was going on very carefully.

He did say he could refer me if I wanted to do that or if he felt that I really needed it.

Let me know if you need his info.
Hope this helps.

I had some post partum depression after the birth of my son 8 months ago. My OB, Dr. Batty (male) was amazing. I thought it was my fault for feeling the way I felt and he never made me feel that way and made me realize it is very common. He is with Johnson County OBGYN. There are 5 or 6 doctors in the office, including female. I have seen them all due to some complications in my pregnancy and i can't say one bad thing about any of them. Even if I was seeing someone other than my doctor, they never made me feel like I wasn't their regular patient. Good Luck to you!!
