Looking for "Green" Product Alternatives

I am definitely a mom who tries to be as "green" as possible. For years I have drove my family nuts with my recycling habits and the smell of vinegar.I am looking for cleaning and hygene products that are as resonable as purchasing them in a local store.I am very conservative on spending, and keep a very tight budget for my large family.I am a huge fan of Melaleuca products, but it was too expensive for me to order EVERY month and also pay shipping.I really LOVED the prducts, but did not like being obligated to purchase every month.I would also be interested in referals websites,or even magazines, with information on how to make natural cleaning and hygene solutions at home. Thank you in advance for your help.

What can I do next?

Hi M.,

I run a website dedicated to providing eco products that help you save money. Here is the site www.hiddengreen.com. I am working on expanding it to provide a solutions and tips for mom's like us.

In the meantime here is a website called clean and green, they have a ton of cleaning formulas. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/8088/clngrn.html

I subscripe to a mag call Kiwi, dedicated to eco families, but not over the top. They also have an online community.

Hope this helps!!

K.

Here is a link to Preserve products.

I have only used their toothbrushes b/c I can find them in my local Target store. When it is time to say goodbye to them, instead of dumping in the trash you go to their website and print out a pre-paid postage label and stick them in an envelope to mail back to company to recycle.
I am trying in all different ways myself to help out the environment so any other suggestions will be nice to hear.
Keep up the good work, every little bit counts :)

You can make your own cleaning products which is way cheaper than buying commercially. I don't have the website handy where I got my recipes, but if you google "Green Clean Party" you should be able to find it. I think the website is called Women for the Environment or something similar.

We love Melaluca too, but it also was too much to buy every month. You can join in with other's ordering (they even suggested that to me when I was cancelling). So, when we need stuff, my best friend still goes through them every month for vitamins, and I just give her a big order with a lot of the pantry packs and my CC info and she orders it and sends that part directly to me. She lives in California. It works out great. Then we also don't have to figure out how much of the shipping cost is mine vs. her's. The company has no problem splitting it up that way. So if you could find someone to order off of that you trust, I would go with that. It also is a bonus for them since it gives them extra reward points for going over the minimum requirement.
