Hey everyone, I have had such great results before I hope I can get some good feedback this time around. My husband and I have been going through alot lately and have finally come to the conclusion that he might be suffereing from some kind of depression. I would like for him to go and get a good physical exam and talk to the doctor about his mood and symptoms and see what they think. We moved to Austin in February and haven't had the need for a good doctor up until this point. I don't want to go to a doctor that is quick to prescribe meds, because they aren't always the answer. We just need to find a great doctor who can help[ us figure out what is going on with my husband, and see if we might need to put him into something like counseling or more. Thanks for everyones help ahead of time. We live in Southwest Austin but don't mind traveling if the doctor is well worth it. Also if anyone knows a great therapists, counselors, or physchs please leave your suggestions as well. :)

What can I do next?

I highly recommend Dr. Kevin Spencer, 4534 Westgate Blvd. (Westgate & ###-###-####. When I saw him for the second time ever, I had shingles, which is the chicken pox virus still in the body and resurfaces typically due to intense stress. Dr. Spencer gently probed about what may be bothering me. When I teared up, he handed me a tissue and spent time reassuring and comforting. He said to call him if I had trouble sleeping or needed help. The only Rx I got was for the virus, so he's not quick to medicate with anti-depressant. Another thing about his office is that he Always runs on time. When I asked his nurse how he could do that, she said he purposely does not schedule as many patients as doctors typically do so he can spend time with his patients. Another FYI, is Dr. Spencer (young man) used to be in private practice but is now in a group with others doctors so he can leave his practice/patients to go on medical mission trips.

Hi J., I have been twice to see Dr. Eric Weidmann at South Austin Medical Clinic. He is hard to get in to see, but he is extremely thorough and spends a lot of time with you. I have also had to wait quite a while in the exam room to see him, but it is because he is not rushing through his patients and it is well worth the long wait.. He is great. Their number is
###-###-#### and they are located on the street behind Central Market and Yoga Yoga, here in South Austin... Good luck... J.

I really like Kevin Spencer at South Austin Family Practice. They are in the strip center directly across Westgate from the movie theatre and Hyde Park Bar and Grill. Their number is ###-###-####.

He is very hands-on and works with you on a course of treatment. In my case, I am on a very mild anti-depressant. He requires that I come have a "check in" every six months before he writes another prescription. (I tried to go off of it once - under his supervision - and it was soon apparent that it is doing a VERY good job and that I still need it for a while.)

He is very compassionate and cares deeply for his patients. He is very active in his church (I know because it's my church, too!) and he's been on several medical mission trips down to New Orleans since Rita.

I have had to wait for a while in his waiting room, but I'm imagining that is because he takes a long time to talk to, listen to and explain things to his patients. An appointment early in the day is better!

Anyway, I hope this helps!
