JFF: What Object/toy Is Your Preschooler Obsessed With?

My 3-year-old, has some very interesting interests lately, as I'm sure your preschooler does as well. I'm not talking TV shows or media but just things she sees in daily life!

When she was ages 1-2, her objets du jour were vacuums and teapots. Yup! Whenever we were in Target, she had to visit the vacuums and see the teapots.

Now, she graduated to the automotive department: Windshield wipers, and exhaust pipes. It's pretty funny. Whenever she sees a car with a windshield wiper on the back she will say "that car has a wishy-washer on the back." Or if a truck goes by, she will announce "some trucks have 'esshaust' pipes on the front!"

Let's not forget car seats. This one is tricky because she always wants to look inside cars to see if there is a cars eat inside. I explain to her that we can't look inside stranger's cars because it's not nice!! And now she will try and sit in hers backwards like a baby because some of her friends have little siblings!

Anyway, what is your preschoolers latest obsession. Love to hear.

What can I do next?

Uggg.... right now its MY FEET. What??? Yes, thats right, my 4 year old is in love with my feet. I have to constantly remove him from my ankles because he hangs all over my ankles and feet while I am trying to walk. He wants to look at them and touch them and smell them, and also play doctor, which involves getting all his superhero figures to examine my feet one by one. Wierd. I know. :)

My son as a preschooler was SO into cars, match box cars, hot wheel cars, video games with cars, real cars. He told everyone he wanted a Mercedes but daddy didn't have enough money. We'd leave the house and he's say lets go see a mercedes. He recognized from people's keychains what kind of car they drove "Do you dwive an akuwa?" "No Gwandma it's pwonounced Porch-uh" Give him a hot wheel he be happy sitting in the cart shopping, Loved long car rides cuz he could look at cars for hours. Still likes them at 8 but no longer obsessed, has other interests :)

Mine's 6, but it's anything pink. I mean ANYTHING. She saw a picture of a newly found slug in Australia and she demanded that we go there so she could catch one for herself and keep it as a pet.

If it's pink, it was destined to be hers. I made myself some pomegranate tea and she drank it when I got up to go to the restroom. Just because it was pink so it was obviously meant for her.

It depends. He fluctuates between his huge collection of Hot Wheels cars, he has an uncle who buys him a few several times a month, his new Jake and the Never Land Pirates ships and action figures, and today he took his Thomas and friends engines down and played with them for the first time in a couple of months, he says he loves Thomas and Percy.

But grab the car keys and his first question is, "Are we going to Target?!" He absolutely loves Target, all of it. So much so I'm considering buying him a red polo shirt to wear with his long khaki pants for Halloween, he can go as a Target "manager" (his choice, not an "employee") and he's cool with it. We just need the name badge...

LOL, my kid is into vacuums, too, and other things that make whirring noises, like hand dryers. But his number one love is clocks! He can tell you all the different kinds of clocks, even obscure ones like anniversary clocks. And I have to laugh, too, at the mini foot fetishist. My son is obsessed with my tummy and also constantly hangs on me trying to rub it, like I'm some kind of good luck Buddha statue. How do we stop it?!

I can't say my daughter ever got that much into any one thing (although she does love mermaids!), but a friend of mine has a daughter the same age and that little girl got majorly into horses and ponies. The only stuffed toys she wanted were horses, and she had names for all of them. She also had a toy stable full of horse figures. After a couple of years of this, her mother finally ended up signing her up for pony-riding lessons. Her love of horses isn't going away anytime soon and she's going to be 6 later this year!
