So What Happened?

Well we didn't buy a new stroller. I was lucky and found a family friend that had an umbrella stroller that they were willing to let me borrow.

If you have a Disney credit card, there is no charge to rent a stroller at either theme park. You can move between parks with the stroller too! It might be worth it to apply for a card just for this benefit :) Have a great time at Disneyland!

we just rented strollers from the park. I think it was like $8/day for each stoller. They were big enough for the kids to be comfortable if they fell asleep and they were still able to see things and get in and out easily.

Buy a cheap umbrella stroller-- they're not comfy to push if you're over 5'5", but no one will bother stealing it. You can probably find one on Craigslist for a couple bucks.

Dear C.,
You can consider getting another stroller, but I must say that we went to Disneyland when my son was a baby. He doesn't remember any of it, but my daughter is ten years older. We went in April and the weather was great!
Anyway, I have to say how very surprised I was that no one bothered anything. We had a diaper bag, of course, for the baby stuff, and I used a fanny pack to keep our keys and I.D's etc in. My son's stroller was very expensive and at first, one parent would go on a ride with my daughter and the other would stay with the baby and the stroller. But then we noticed how many people just left their strollers by the ride entrances. We finally asked another couple with kids about our ages and asked them if they weren't worried about leaving their stroller and things. They said they'd been there for 2 days and always left the stroller with no problem. So, we decided to try it. No one messed with a single thing. And it was so much more fun when we could all go on rides together. My son was way too little for many of the rides, but there are a lot of things for little kids and he had a blast.
We live in a very small town so I was worried about the whole "L.A." thing, and with so many crowds of people, I thought surely we'd have to hang on to things for dear life or they'd be stolen. I was very pleasantly surprised.
We stayed at Disneyland Hotel and when we bought things, all we had to do was give our room number and our purchases were delivered to us in the evening which was really nice so we didn't have to drag everything around all day. But lots of people left bags, jackets and sweaters, all kinds of things in their strollers.
Get another one to take if it will be one less thing for you to worry about, but we had no problems at all.
Have a wonderful time at Disneyland!

We went to Disneyland in September and took my $300 double stoller that everyone comments on (well everyone who has kids anyway) and it wasn't stolen....I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just make sure to carry all of your important stuff in a backpack you take with you. If for some reason someone is a jerk and takes it, you can than go and rent one.
But I wouldn't waste the money if you don't have to.

when we went to Disneyland we left our stroller @ home and rented one everyday. It was so nice. When we left the park we just left the stroller there and picked it up on our way back in. It was worth it to me to pay the extra $5 or whatever it was a day and not to have to drag the stroller around. My kids were young but could walk. If I had an infant prob would of brought my own.

Hi C.!

My husband and I have always taken our own strollers to an Amusement Park. If your little one is comfy, can recline, and has everything he/she needs, then YOU will have a much better time.

We've never had our stroller stollen all these years, and we parked it like everyone else.

Your little one will not be as comfortable, if you rent one.

Have fun!!!!

We bought a cheap umbrella stroller too. I think it was $20 at Toys R Us. I didn't worry about anyone stealing it and we took it everywhere. Just make sure you get one with storage underneath. After Disney we used it frequently for trips to the mall, etc when we didn't want to bother with the heavy duty stroller. It was a great purchase! Good luck and have fun!!!!

Hi C.,

We took our little guy to the Virgin Islands and I was actually really concerned about the airports ruining my stroller so I bought one on craigslist.org (such great deals) and now we keep that stroller around for travel purposes. I don't know how old your child is but if (s)he's young enough you might find you use it many times. Then when you are done with it, you can sell it on craigslist! :)

Have fun at Disneyland! I can't wait for my little guy to be old enough to enjoy it.

Hi,
My family has been going to Disney for 30 years and have never had a stroller stolen. My parents used a stroller with my sister and now my sister & her kids and my family & my kids have always taken a stroller. We too have left all kinds of things in the stroller while in shows & on rides. We've never had anything stolen.

Plus, the other mom was right. If you rent, you can't take the stroller through Downtown Disney; carrying a little one can get quite tedious and heavy!

Have fun & don't stress!!

The only problem with renting one is that you cannot leave the area between the parks. So, if you want to go shopping in Downtown Disney area you'll have to carry your little one.

It depends on how old your kids are and do you have a Disney Visa? If you don't have the Disney card...it's worth getting one if you have time before the trip. Lots of perks, including free stroller rental and a free character picture (with free meet and greet) worth at least $12. And discounts. And they usually have some sort of "Apply now and get coupon/gift card" deal going.

If you have an infant and will be walking distance, you'll want your own stroller. The Disney ones aren't that supportive. But for toddlers through preschoolers (and kindergarteners...and even a wee bit older...) they are fine. If you bring your own remember that you'll be folding it down and toting it and your purchases on the monorail or train. Disney strollers can get ditched and renewed (just save your receipt)

I think it depends on your stroller. If it was really expensive (I have a Bugaboo that we got on Craigslist, but was still $$$). I bought an umbrella stroller for $70 before our last plane trip and am glad I did. Easier to travel with and I won't freak out if it gets broken or stollen. It's also so much lighter and easier to travel with.

My daughter rents the stroller at Disneyland everytime she goes. But one thing you have to remember is that you can not take the stroller to Downtown Disney, so if you don't mind carrying your child if they are asleep then go ahead and rent, but if your child is heavy when they are asleep and they don't want to walk anymore, then bring your own stroller. That way you can use it to walk back to the Disney hotel or even to the tram. It all depends on how convienient you want to make if for yourself.

My daughter also printed out some Stroller tags for her stroller.

We've been to Disneyland about twice a year since 2005 and have never had a stroller stolen. But we did go ahead and get one of those Chico strollers for about $70 since it is lightweight but still comfy for your child. That became our go-to stroller as my youngest son grew. Unless you have one of those super expensive celebrity strollers, I can't imagine why someone would go to the trouble of stealing it.

We were just at Disneyland in September w/ our 2 year old. We took our Maclaren umbrella stroller because we use it in the airport and on the rest of the trip. We travel quite a bit w/ our daughter and the stroller does get a little banged up by the airlines so it's a good idea to invest in a less expensive one if you plan to do a lot of traveling. We had a really cheap umbrella stroller but we were both too tall to push it comfortably for long periods of time. We have never had a stroller stolen during trips to Sea World, numerous zoos and aquariums and Disneyland. I noticed that the line to rent strollers at Disneyland was pretty long when the park first opened.
Have a great trip!!

We take our own stroller and never have had any issues. The only issue we had was that one of the wheels was loose and ready to break, so before that happened we went to walmart which is one exit away from Harbor Blvd and picked up a cheap umbrella stroller which worked out, instead of having the wheel break while we are in the middle of having fun in the park. So if yours just happens to get stolen, you can always run to walmart.

I would rent one there if I were you. They're about $10 or $15 to rent a day, at least that was last year. And if you are there for more days, i believe there are other prices for muiltiple days, but not sure. And that way you also don't have to travel with the stroller, unless you are planning on using it somewhere other then Disneyland. I've rented one there and also at Disneyworld, it was very easy. I would do it again when I need to.

Just my thoughts on it.

We just got back from Disneyland with our almost 3 year old. We took our stroller and were glad to have it. Sometimes it carried our stuff, sometimes our daughter would ride in it. In the evening when she got tired she would curl up with her blanket and go right to sleep in it. I would recommend having a stroller of some kind. If you take yours and it gets stollen(which is very rare) you will have to buy a new one. If you buy a new one ahead of time and it doesn't get stollen then you have two....either way you had to buy a new one, but if yours doesn't get stollen than you don't have to spend the extra. If you are really worried about it just rent one down there. The Strollers they rent out are pretty nice. They are the ones with a single wheel in the front that actually swivels so they turn easily and aren't too big. They also have a medium sized basket underneath. I actually think I would just rent one next time and not have to deal with transporting ours.

we had hand-me-down cheap umbrella strollers that were great for this kind of thing - lightweight, doesn't take up much space when folded, and if it got lost/stolen/broken, no big deal. And if you don't use it again you can always put it up on freecycle or donate to a family shelter.

We have been to Disneyland 5 times with our own stroller and never had a problem. We even leave all of our stuff in the basket (except for the camera and wallets).

I would think it more likely that someone would take off with one that you rent because they can just slide out the paper that has your last name written on it and be on their way. Who would know because there are hundreds of other people with the Disneyland strollers?! I'm sure people that don't want to pay to rent one have done this to families.

One annoying thing, make sure before you get in line for your ride that you park your stroller in the designated area because they have workers who move the strollers if they're not. We came out of the Astro Blasters and thought someone had taken off with ours, but it had just been moved.

Also, I'm not sure how old your kiddies are, but the baby areas are really great to escape to for a quiet feeding for babies(near first aid). They have filtered water, too, so just bring an empty bottle and refill it and you could save serious cash on water.

Obviously I'm a Dland fan! You will have the best time ever with your little one(s)! J.

I wouldn't worry so much about the stroller being stolen, I would worry more about the ease and comfort of the one you have. The lighter weight, the better. We used a chicco, the updated, upgraded version of the umbrella stroller, not the big one that you can put a car seat on. We love it, it reclines, has room for stuff underneath, and folds up small, it also has a strap to carry it over your shoulder. Have a great time in Disneyland, we are all jealous right now.

I have never had a problem at disney with my stroller. That being said I have never taken a super expensive stroller either (only my baby jogger that is like their rentals or my zippy that I got on clearance, no $500-$800 strollers;->). I am on several stroller boards and for those that do have the high end strollers that they take to disneyland, they just bring a bike lock and lock it up through the tires and frame to be sure. I just make sure to take my wallet, but leave the jackets, snacks and diapers, etc. in the stroller and never had anything touched.

The problem with renting is that #1 it's expensive and #2 you don't have the stroller to take back to your hotel at the end of the day.

It could be worth it just to ease your mind depending on whether your current stoller means that much to you or was that expensive to purchase. I would call Disney's Customer Care or Guest Relations office (probably a number you can look up on their website) and ask about their stroller rentals. They do have trams that take you from parking to the ticket/front doors of the park. If the rental is more than a second hand stoller from some place local then buy a simple umbrella stroller.

More often than not the reason the strollers were stolen is that they had too much stuff in them for safe keeping. There are the souvenirs, camcorders, cameras, kids parkas, lunchs, drinks etc. What I have done in the past when attending Marine World is keep an ice chest in the car covered with a blanket. We leave the park with our hands stamped have lunch, relax a moment, drop off items such as unwanted sweatshirts and awkward to carry souvenirs or toys. Then we head back in with less than we had and happy to not have to wrangle so many items around the park.

My advice is regardless of whether you buy an umbrella stroller, rent one from Disney, or take your regular one Keep It Simple! Take in only what you absolutely HAVE to. A couple of plastic cups, a couple of bottles already loaded with liquid or (if you use formula) measured with the powder (don't add the water until use), a few diapers and wipes, and make be a light/medium weight blanket to drap over the stroller for extra shade if needed. Take your souvenirs and extras to the car once in the middle of the day and once before you leave for the night. Don't purchase the beautiful tinket until you know you are close to going to the car to put it away. I would be inclinded to purchase one of those cheap mesh backpacks or totes from Wal-Mart to help making a trip to the car easier for one person if you just have to throw in that extra trip to get supplies for the baby or to take things to the car. Anyway, I hope this helps you some and I hope that your trip is lots and lots of fun. Enjoy yourself!!! :)

Sure it is convenient to get to and from the hotel if you're staying within walking distance. This year we rented. The strollers are great. I think they are all new since last year when we visited. They are comfy for the kids and hold a child up to about eighty pounds. Also, they have a shade canopy.

I kept my money in my pocket, but we left all the kid stuff on the strollers while we were on rides. There is a ton of security at Disney that guests aren't aware of. I've never known anyone who had stroller problems.

It's $25 to rent a stroller in Disneyland and you can't bring it into Downtown Disney! Depending on how many days you'll be there, that can add up! :) I know, we did this the first time we went there!

We're going again next week and this time, I'm bringing my umbrella stoller. No one takes it, it's pretty safe - I've done it @ San Diego Zoo and Sea World and did not have any problems. The people who go there either have their own strollers or they rent (the rented ones have your name on it). Then again, maybe they don't like the cheap umbrella strollers. :) Have fun!

When we went on rides we left everything in our stroller, back pack, purchases, money, my camera, etc. and never one time did anyone take anything. I believe it's a hidden rule that at Disneyland there's just a hands off rule. Anyway, you can rent a really cool stroller there but they aren't for small babies. Your child would need to be old enough for an umbrella stroller, hold up their head etc. I didn't read you bio so not sure how old your child is.

Do not buy another stroller. That seems silly. We have been going to Disneyland for 10 years at least 2-5 times per year. We have never had a stroller (or anything) stolen. We leave everything in the stroller (jackets, purchases, diaper bag.) and just carry a backpack with cameras, snacks and money. I have never had anything bothered. I would venture to guess the "stolen" strollers may have just been moved. Many times if too many strollers pile up outside a popular ride a castmember will move some to another area. That has happened numerous times and we have to go on a little bit of a hunt but it's never been a big deal. We have had all different types of strollers and never had a problem. We do what is most comfortable for our kids and convenient for us. We did rent from D-land one trip but it was kind of a hassle since they all look alike you have to hunt through them for yours. Anyway, hope this helps!! Have Fun! We're going again in December.
