Here latley my 17 month old son has been putting his legs between the rails of his crib and has even gotten stuck a couple of times. Is it time for me to put him in a toddlar bed or is there something I can put over the rails?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone who responded to my question. He has a crib that turns into a toddlar bed, so we did try the toddlar bed. When we put him in his new bed, he got up as soon as I left the room. I put him back to bed several times and he sat in there with him for awhile and he would still get up. I even tried putting his three year old borther in bed with him and it did not work. So at about 10:30 p.m. at night my husband had to put the rail back up on his bed, thank goodness we tried this on a Saturday night. After the rail was put back on he was asleep with 10 minutes. I will probley wait until he is two before I try it again.

You might do an Internet search to see if there are any products that you can use. My son went through a short period of doing that (he is now 2 but that is around the time he did it) but I think he is almost too big now. In my experience, I like to keep them in the crib as long as I can (within reason). Our two year old is an adventurer...I am not ready for him to have that taste of freedom yet. :) (Thankfully he LOVES his crib)

Good luck!

I put my oldest daughter in one when she was 18 months old and I wish I had waited. My baby girls is 21 months and she will start sleeping in a toddler bed on her 2nd birthday.

looking at your question and your 'about me' i thought id written this! but i have a 3 and 1 yr old and they still sleep in bed with me. they have beds that they sleep in but its a personal preference that i want them to sleep with me. my boys have asthma and my older son had an attack while he was in his bed so now i sleep very lightly so i can check on their breathing. there is one benefit to putting your kids in their own beds...intimacy with the man in your life will be much easier!!

I JUST asked this same question to friends about two weeks ago and they all responded in the same way.......kepp the baby in the crib as long as possible. I had to take the bumper pads out b/c my son can stand on them and I was concerend that he would climb out. Well, then his chunky little leg got stuck. So, what you can do is buy a cheap, thin bumper that will collapse if your child tries to stand on it or you can go to onestepahead.com and order their wonderful mesh "bumper". Personally I am not ready to go through the fight of keeping my son IN a toddler bed once it is bed/nap time so I am going to stick with the crib for just as long as i can!

How about some bumpers?? I would personally keep him in the crib as long as possible, but if you move him to a toddler bed, he'll get used to that too.
Good luck!

I would definitely say so. I had the same problem with my now almost 4 yr old son. It's time for the big boy bed honey!

Yes, or just skip it since he kind of too old for one. He could just go into a twin.
