After the birth of my son, I did get a bit of mild depression. I did notice a change for the better when I went back on birth control. When I am on my period I noticed that I start having the same mood swings and all my old symtoms. I was wondering if anyone has had anything similar happen to them?

It sounds like it's just PMS. In some cases, women deveiop serious PMS symptoms. You should speak to a psychiatrist. They may be able to prescribe something to lessen the problem. I think they call it Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder.

Yes. This happened to me with my youngest daughter. I had to go off of the pill completely. Though I still have mood swings during my period, it's more gradual - not so many peaks and valleys like when I was on the pill. I don't know if you should take this drastic a measure, but it worked for me. Talk to your doc.

T., it is very common for women who have had postpartum depression to have mood swings when menstruation resumes. Often, over time they will become less severe. A group called postpartum support international has a great informational website that you might check out. Also there is one postpartum support group in town, it's through family to family connection.
I am a graduate student @ UNLV and do research on postpartum. We are running an internet survey on postpartum, if you would take the survey, I'd really appreciate it. It only takes about 20 minutes. We need 500 participants. The survey is listed at our website, www.maternalhealthlab.com. My email is ____@____.com, if you have any more questions. If there is anything else I can do for you, let me know.

Hi, Girl,
I think that you are still dealing with post-partum a little. I went through post-partum depression until my daughter was around 1 yr, then it calmed down a lot. Now I only deal with expected moodiness once a month for a day or two. Ha-Ha :) Be patient with yourself and take many, many moments of quiet time with your new little one. Also, a well balanced diet, quality vitamins and regular outings with exercise will make a world of difference. Time, itself will be the biggest healer.

The other thing, has your doctor suggested anything. Sometimes if the post-partum is severe enough, your MD may prescribe something temporarily, like an anti-depressant. The only problem with that is sometimes you cannot get off it easily.

T.- I feel for you! I was a wreck after the birth of my daughter and I did not find relief until after I got pregnaunt with my son (2 years later) I truely belive it has something to do with the hormones.

I finally found relief with my Dr's help. I was sad, unmotivated, hated everything, and everyone. I had moments of joy when I held my baby but, it was awful the majority of the time. Do these symptoms sound familiar? My Dr's tried everything from mild antianxiety pills to ADD meds!

I stress to you to talk to your DR immediately-there is no reason to feel this way it can be helped.Good luck! H.
