Gone are the days of expensive salon appointments and pricey beauty products now that I am a new mom. Can anyone suggest an inexpensive shampoo/conditioner that is safe for color-treated hair and provides good volume? Hoping to purchase on my grocery store runs.

What can I do next?

I've used Pantene Pro-V for years. It's worked well through perms, colors, both together and nothing at all. I swear by it.

I just discovered the "sunsilk" brands and I love them! About $2.50 a bottle and so many different "formulas."

even though i go to a hairdresser for cut/style/color/highlights, i have found color vive shampoo and conditioner are the best for color treated hair. i color my hair red (ok, not freak red but red red :) and this shampoo is the best at keeping the shine for a few months. everything else runs down the color within a few short weeks and i had to go have it redone. our local safeway offers this shampoo and conditioner buy 1 get 1 free quite often. i think otherwise each runs between 4 and 6 dollars. good luck

I personally love Tresemme. They have a few choices and come in large bottles for cheap.

I really like Suave stuff. They've got a new line that's based on more expensive brands & I use the sleek & shiny brand that comes in an orange bottle, but I've definitely seen one for color-treated hair. I went to Wal-Mart yesterday & got the super-sized bottles for shampoo & conditioner for under $3 each & I really do like it. Try the smaller bottle to see if you like it & if not, well, it's only a few bucks, right?

I realize I am responding late, but I just joined so please accept my delayed response. I saw your request, and had to reply. I work with AVON, at the moment we are running a special on our shampoo and conditioner for $1.99 but the reg. price is $3.49. I use the color line, and LOVE IT !!! I get all kinds of comments, and truth be told I have used everything from suave to biolage, and honestly find this to be the best product. Let me know if I can help - one benefit is it can be delivered to your door, and you can shop 24hrs a day. www.youravon.com/kjudy Hope it helps!

I use Loreal Color Vive, works great! Not too expensive, about $3, but they have it at Target, and buy one get one free all the time! As for volume, not sure, but they have many formulas so there might be one specific for that.
Good luck.

As soon as I gave birth, my hair kept falling.
To make things worse, I have what you called a very thin-soft-baby hair, that just adds on the nightmare to my throne!

I was introduced to a hair product by an Vietnamese hairsylist. It's called Nioxin. You can go to any hair salon or even the little store at the mall that sells all sorts of hygiene products, nail colors, etc.

Fyi, it has been close to 4yrs now, I've been using Nioxin #3(both shampoo and conditioner), large bottles if you buy them as a set will cost you around $35-$45, and lasted at least 6mths for me. My hair is looking great. I feel awesome and looks fabulous! Try it!

Hi B.,

It's not the cheapest shampoo out there but it is a truly awesome product. It's called Satinique and it is beauty store quality delivered to your door! You can even set up a ditto which means that if you know you go through it every month you can have it on a standing order to be sent to your house every month. The products are all backed by a 180 day money back guarantee. Even if you use all the products simply send it back. It doesn't even cost you anything to send it back they include a label in the shipment where if you really aren't satisfied you just affix the postage paid label to your box and send it back. No worries. Here is the website:

As a SAHM to 3 sweet girls I say treat yourself and buy your salon products when you can. I buy salon products about once a year and love it while they last then go back to getting the best that I can find at Target. I am using Nexus right now for Color treated hair and find that it does not weigh my limp hair down like other products. I bought it at target.

My mother likes the big bottles of Pantene. I think you can get them for $6-7 at Sam's. I normally just pick up something that smells nice. I haven't had a problem with that, but I also don't color treat my hair or really do much of anything to it so it isn't damaged by anything more than brushing.
