Hi. I don't color my hair, so I can't speak from experience. However, I work for Alberto Culver. We make a number of beauty products including the Tresemme and Nexxus hair care lines. I buy the Tresemme color protecting shampoo and conditioner for my mom. Nexxus makes one as well. There is a page on the nexxus website about protecting your color treated hair at: http://www.nexxus.com/Hair-Issues/Colored. I use our Nexxus salon brand of shampoo personally.

Both the Tresemme and Nexxus products are made locally, in our plant in Melrose Park.

I hope you find something that works for you.

Good Luck,
D.

Hi Pj - I'd like to tell you about a brand new company, Votre Vu. Votre Vu offers affordable high quality French skin care but they also have a hair care line that is just as great as their skin care. We have taken out of our shampoo the many villains that prey upon your hair and scalp condition, and have imported a whole team of superheroes to protect and defend your locks. Our shampoo is an effective yet gentle cleanser which eliminates build up, impurities and toxins without stripping your hair's natural oils. It does not contain sodium laurel sulfates (SLS) so no stripping of your hair color investment! Click on this link to read about it and our other hair care products: http://www.votrevu.com/sites/sallybriar/productcatalog?pa.... Please let me know if you have any questions. Good luck! S.

Love, love, love Redken. You can get a good deal on the salon size at Ulta. Ulta sends coupons out regularly for $3.50 off purchase. Also, very frequently, you can buy 2/ get one free. It ends up being cheaper than what you can get just about anywhere else and I think it works the best.

Hi I am a hair stylist and I hope i can help you. First of all, What is your natural color and what color do you color your hair? How often do you wash your hair? how often do you color your hair?

I will tell you no matter what shampoo you use, your color will fade regardless. Depending on what color your colored hair is, Bumble and Bumble makes colored shampoo and conditioner that works together to deposit color every time you use them. But you need to alternate by using a non color depositing shampoo.I love Goldwell shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair. Also, depending what color your hair is and how often you get your hair colored, ask your colorist to refresh the ends with demipermanent color (unless you get highlights also..thats a whole nother story).

If you wash your hair everyday, your hair will fade much faster and its not good for your scalp. Three days between shampoos would be ideal.

Also in the summer months, ( unless you live somewhere where its sunny all year round) you can use use products to protect your hair from the sun since it will really make your color fade. There are UV protection for hair. Or you can wear a hat. But to tell you the truth, since most people color their hair every 4-6 weeks, all the extra stuff stylists make you get is really not necessary. Ive never used store bought shampoo and conditioner but I bet it doesnt make such a huge difference.

I use Aveda Red Madder Root and it makes a huge difference I ran out last month and thought I'd try something new, my red faded fast. You might want to try one of the specific shade shampoo from Aveda for your color.

Redkin's line for color treated hair is really nice. You can get it - and other salon brands - at Ulta for a lot less money. I read something by some "stylist to the stars" guy who said every few times you shower to just rinse your hair well and not use shampoo, which is drying and stripping. This seems to work well, too.

Is it the condition of your hair? or is it because of the fading. It could be the color too. Some brands of hair color just don't hold up as well as others. It might not hurt to switch brands for a few months at a time and try them out. I use a brand called Melaluca for color treated hair. In fact my sister who's hair isn't color treated likes it too. It isn't avaialable in stores, you can get it from someone who sells melaluca products or go on line to their website.

I am an independent Shaklee Distributor and sell Shaklee products. I have used probably EVERY color-treated hair shampoo and the only one that really works for me is the Prosante by Shaklee. It's amazing - it brightens, cleans, and leaves no residue. I love the scent of Aveda, but always felt a little greasy at the end of the day. The other great thing about Shaklee is that it's about $13 for an 8 or 10 oz. bottle - super-concentrated and has no parabens and icky stuff that you shouldn't put on your scalp or body. Here's the link to my Shaklee website - feel free to contact me with any other questions - I'd love to help!

Arbonne International's FC5 Shampoo and Conditioner were made specifically for color treated. My hair feels so much better using it, but is not weighed down (mine is thin and straight after having 2 kids). Also, right after I color, I use their SeaSource Detox Spa Hair Masque for a five minute treatment - can't even tell you how much I love that!!
Write me back for ordering directions - everyone can have a 20% discount wholesale membership with Arbonne WITHOUT having to buy minimums or sell it.
Hope this helps!

I love Pureology. I have colored my hair for years and tend to have very dry hair and this shampoo/conditioner is by far the best. It is pretty expensive, but it lasts a long time.
