I think I will take the plunge and invite 5-6 boys over for my son's 6th birthday. I haven't done this before - any advice on activities, themes, etc?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hmmm, ok, hadn't thought about the bed-wetters. Maybe a 6-10pm party is best. Thank you for the awesome ideas!!!!

You could do a space theme. Get glow in the dark stars and lanterns and do things outside in the dark. Play hide and seek in the dark. Kids can just stand anywhere.... can't see them. Have the seeker play in pairs. You could have them make the planets out of playdough, you could do sidewalk chalk the glows in the dark and have a contest for the best planet drawn. You could make rocket ship cake and / or cookies.

The 6 year old boy. You are probably going to have at least one bedwetter, one that will cry for his mommy in the middle of the night, and one that will stay up all night and irritate the heck out of you by his running and bouncing off the walls.

I think having a good long party in the evening hours would be the extent of the party and not try overnight until he is a bit older, maybe 8.

I like the idea of a space theme, you really can do a lot with that, and that glow in the dark chalk, paint stuff looks really cool! You could also do Star Wars, if your son is into that, and do some of the same stuff CatPlus2 mentioned.

Have you considered a pinata? That also might be fun. I'd probably do pizza, snacks and a movie too.

You could always ask if the child is a bedwetter. Mine are but I would never let them do an overnight stay. Too embarrassing for the child, I'd think. Make sure to ask the parents if you can call them at 3am if someone needs to go home. Some parents wouldn't come and would let you deal with it.

Lego theme would be fun if you have legos. You could have a lego building contest. Purchase the little $5 kits as part of the "goodies" they take home. There is a new alien one if you want and you could still do a space theme as someone mentioned.

My first reaction was you are VERY brave to invite 6 boys plus your child. That is a lot of kids for a long duration. I know most people start off with 4 total (so that would be 3 friends). Maybe consider starting smaller than your original thought. And the only sleepover party my daughter went too, one girl went home at 10pm (her Mom didn't think she was ready to do overnight), but that was a personal choice (maybe a bed wetter or maybe Mom was having a hard time). I told the Mom of the birthday child to call me anytime she needed & provided all numbers. I called to check in about 7pm (because she picked her up from school and I hadn't seen her since 8:30am) and then picked her up at 9am the next morning. They did great - I guess they finally went to sleep when the Mom said lights out about midnight. Just know it's going to be a long and active night. I loved both the space and lego themes that others mentioned. And as for activities, if you wanted to the boys could make their own personal pizza, have the dough ready and then lots of different toppings available, but they choose the amount of cheese and what toppings. That is if you're trying to find something else to do (otherwise, ordering pizza is easiest on you). And I'd play several active board games (like Twister Hoopla) or anything to get the boys moving. Also, I think a movie is a must for a sleepover. Best of luck to you. Have fun!

Is there any way on Earth you can include swimming in on this plan? That will ensure that they are totally wiped out by bedtime.
God love you, because we have had O. buddy sleep over once and my husband & I had to tag-team the night to get *any* sleep!

I would re-think the # of kids...if O. is UP they're all up!

Have fun!

I am with Gamma G - just be prepared for a bed wetter and a mom phone call at 3 am.

But - if you do it!

- water gun fights
- lots of grab n go snacks on hand
- juice boxes
- movies
- flashlights for games
- nightlights for sleep
- set up a tent in the living room

Love the idea of a space theme!

Have fun you brave soul!
