My baby girl started to really drool about 5 days ago, and started putting her hands in her mouth. Today, I decided to run my finger against her gums and I found a tiny white hard spot on the bottom middle of her gum!!! She hasn't been really fussy, but a little more than usual. She has been using a nipple shield to nurse since birth....does anyone has an opinion???

What can I do next?

There are some teething tablets that they sell at walmart. They work really well and have no flavor. They dissolve as soon as they are put into baby's mouth so no chance of choking. I have tasted them myself so I know they have no flavor. IT worked really well with my kids. Or just put a cube of ice in a clean wash cloth and allow baby to chew on it.

Just go with it! My kids always like to chew on a toothbrush when they were teething or a wet rag...

Good luck - M.

It is possible that she is cutting a tooth. One of the moms in my moms groups said her little boy at 4 teeth by the time he was 6 months. I think it depends on if you and your hubby cut teeth early when you where both babies. Try giving her something cold to chew on, I used a gerber spoon the ones that have the rubber coating I stuck it in the freezer and my little one loved it. Once she is older and eating solids I used carrots. Maybe try massaging her gums or letting her chew your finger the pressure should help relieve some pain for her. As for her nursing and teething if she is nursing right you should not be able to feel her teeth. Quynh is almost a year and has 6 teeth and I am still nursing. The only time I feel her teeth is when she is finished and is playing (ouch)

My daughter had a small white bump on her gums at a really early age. I thought it was a tooth but it turned out to be a cyst. It went away after a couple of days. I gave her all of the usual teething remedies just to ease some of her discomfort. I know some kiddos do cut teeth early so definitely don't rule that out, but this may also be a possibility. Good luck.

My mom was wiping my face when I was a few weeks old and the towel snagged on something. It was a tooth! It turns out that I was born with 2 teeth. Those 2 teeth came out when I was 4 years old. Maybe give the pediatrician a call.

Hi L.,

It could be possible. But it could be "debris".

My daughter was 2 months old when we thought she was teething. We felt her gums and also felt hard ridges. We asked her Pedi at her check-up and he said sometimes there is "debris" that works it's way out of the gums. Little pieces of bone. It can be a little painful (annoying) for the baby but they work their way out and then they're gone. And this is exactly what it was. She didn't cut her first two teeth until she was 8 months old. He suggested to use some orajel to help.

Chek with your mom or mom in law, you might be surprised that you or your mate was an early teether.

My son had two teeth by 3 months just like me! and yes we made it a full year breast feeding. The only time it was a problem (breast feeding wise) was when he fell asleep attached and started "slipping" off the breast. DON'T PULL...push the baby towards the breast and you'll be ok.

Sometimes babies get fussy, or drooly or feverish, but there are homiopathic remedies. We didn't have too many bad issues.

Just so you know: ALL the teeth will come correspondingly earlier. My son is 12 and has his 12 YO molars since he was 9 or so. Just keep up the brushing and don't delay that 1st dentist appointment!

Good luck and enjoy!!

It is very possible. My husband worked with a guy who had a child that was born with teeth.

Some other symptoms of teething are looser stools, a runny nose and a low grade fever. I have six children and I would say out of the 120 teeth have been cut on my watch about 80% had those symptoms plus the ones you are describing. She's more than likely teething. Some babies are fussier than others about it. Those teething rings that have liquid in them that you can freeze are the best. Good luck!
