Holiday Craft Open House-- in My Home???

I'm wondering if anyone has held a craft show in their home? If so, do you have any success tips? I'm wondering if it's worth my while to give it a try? I was thinking keep it small maybe 6 women all offering different things. Does anyone know any crafters that may be interested? Someone, who may be starting off and not doing "big" craft shows? I'm in the far western suburbs. Just thinking through this idea for now! Thanks.

What can I do next?

My husband and I have just started selling jewelry. We have done only a few craft shows. We might be interested in your idea. What suburb do you live in? We are in near west suburbs.

thanks.

Hi M.,

I think this is a great season to have a Holiday Open House! (I've already gotten invitations to several). According to my friends, it's pretty easy to host. All you need is the space, and let your vendors know if you will be providing table/chairs, etc. They basically bring everything, and you could provide snacks and beverages for your guests (invite everyone!). One of the perks is that the vendors may have a host incentive for you, so you could be shopping for free! I think someone mentioned having a drawing or raffle of some sort. That always makes it fun!

I'm also a Tastefully Simple consultant, and would be interested in your Open House, if you should decide to have "non-craft" vendors. Alternatively, my mother-in-law makes denim tote bags, and 100% of her sales goes to the American Cancer Society. She's participated in craft shows before. Let me know if you want either of our information, and I would be happy to help you out!

All the best!

Hi M.,
I am a Pampered Chef consultant and have done several in-home open houses with other vendors. This might be different than what you are planning with crafters. The ones that are successful have advertised the event in some way (newspaper, flyers, emails, etc.) and they also receive an rsvp from those attending. Giveaways/raffles usually help bring in more people as well. If you are interested in vendors as well as crafters, I would be happy to participate. My grandmother has made several aprons that I suggested she sell at craft shows that she has given to me to take along to upcoming open houses. If that interests you, feel free to contact me.

Hello,
Sorry about the late reply to this subject. I am a Cookie Lee Jewelry Vendor and I have done and had several open houses. They can be VERY successful as long as you have the captive audience. Do you have a good friend and family base that would come? Also you can open it up to have your vendors/crafters invite their customer base (friends and family too) I also have a feiend who make the most awesome bows for little girls, I can give you her web site link if you are interested. Lastly if you want to open it up to a vendor by chance, keep me in mind. Let me know if you need more ideas or suggestions, I have plenty.

I have attended a craft show in a home. The women were very organized. they sent postcards to us well in advance of the event and advertised in local newspapers. their event grew substantially over time. I think it is a good idea. You should give it a try. as a plus, you have this forum to get the word out!

Hi, My name is N.. My mom and I have a business and do the local Markets and craft shows. We make baby and toddler items, blankets, bibs, burp cloths, pillow case dresses, hair bows, embellished hats. All of our items are made made with trendy fabrics and backed in Chenille or Minky. We have not yet done a home show but might be interested, we are in Geneva. You are welcome to look at our website and Ebay but please know that it is VERY bare. We have been so busy this summer with shows that I have spent no time on the web. We have alot of new fabrics that are not up online yet.

I also have a friend from the Markets that makes beautiful jewelery and I know she does home shows. Her pieces have a vintage flare and are VERY reasonable.

Here are my web address if you would like to take a look, I would also be happy to send pictures of our new items if you like.
