Our 2 year old microwave is above the stove with the exhaust fan & light. My husband turn on the light that is below the microwave. There was a bluish light and popping fuze sound. Now the light and the microwave motor is not working. The exhaust fan, clock, & timer work still. If I turn on the micrwave it humms but nothing more. The circuit breaker is not flipped.
Does anybody have experience with this sorta thing? Thanks!

I recently had a similar experience. I think what happened in our case was that steam from boiling water on the stove condensed in the microwave and shorted it out (you know the thing about water and electricity being bad!) The previous owners of our house installed the microwave, I think, too close to the stove top. We had to buy a new microwave for the counter top and installed a plain hood over the stove for now.

I just had the exact same thing happen to my dishwasher. I saw the blue light and heard a pop. When we took the plate off the front it was a simple short. 2 wires were touching that shouldn't have been. We secured the wires and it works fine again. I know it's not the same issue, but I guess it's worth a try for you.

It sounds like the motor on your microwave burned out. Wires may have been touching that shouldn't have been or it is just a cheap/bad motor that did not last long. The place where I work has had this happen 3 times, we got a new microwave each time.

You can look into getting a new motor for the microwave BUT unless you have a warranty on it it will be almost as cheap/expansive to just get a new one. Alos call the store where you got it and see what options they have for you, some may do free repairs or discounted repair but it is 2 years old so they may not.

You could also call a repair person and see what they would suggest and prices for repair and coming to just check it out... then again that will get pricey.

Inside your microwave there should be a model number, serial number and date of manufacture. Most of the microwave manufacturers warranty the part of the microwave that heats the food (sorry I can't remember what it is called right now)for up to 10 years. Either call the store where you bought it and speak to their service area, or look up the manufacturer on line and email their customer service with this information. I would think that it should be covered. Microwaves that mount over the stove are sealed so that they are not affected by steam or heat. Our microwave is a GE and was fixed free of charge when it stopped heating food and it was 8 years old! Good luck!

I have the same thing with an expensive microwave that is three years old. I have to hold the button in to make it work or use duct tape to hold the button down to make it keep going.

Any microwave fixers out there?

I don't know if this is the problem with your micro, but I do know that there are fuses inside the micro. Or the magnetron may be bad and that is an expensive fix. Hope this helps a little.

It sounds like it's done for. If the store won't replace it, ask for a good discount for the next one. I would also call the manufacturer. Sometimes a certain model has specific problems and they may offer a replacement (high hopes) or an in-store discount. Don't just let it go!

Good luck!
