Help Around the House

Hi - I'm a busy SAHM with 3 kids. It seems like my husband and I have to spend all weekend doing yardwork and cleaning (especially with 3 kids, a hairy dog and 2 cats). I clean during the week too but it seems all I do is tidy up and pick up toys, not actually clean showers, mop floors etc. I was wondering how expensive it is for maid service and/or yard service. What sort of prices do you pay? How often do they come? Do you think it is worth it? I'd appreciate your input on this decision. Thanks!

What can I do next?

You are very busy indeed. I have 2 kids and 2 dogs and struggle with the same thing. I used to work full time, and when I did, I had a cleaning lady come once a month and clean the whole house, including sweeping/mopping the garage. Also, we had our yard done front and back every week. It was NICE!! Since I stay at home now, our income has been cut in half, so I have been struggling to put myself on a "schedule" so I can have some sense of order in my house. It seems to be working so far, but the yard doesn't always get mowed everyweek, like I would like. If you and your husband can afford it, HIRE the HELP. It will make your life a little more enjoyable and stress free, and have more time for the kids. I would hire people that you can find via word of mouth or that are recommended. Especially cleaners that will be inside your home and seeing all your personal stuff. You don't want anyone riping you off! Price is going to depend on the size of your home and what you are having done. I never had anyone do my laundry. I do that myself and have to do one load EVERYDAY to keep it controllable, and it really makes a difference if I don't let it pile up. Good Luck!

Maid service isn't in our budget but I can tell you one system that WORKS and is FUN. It's called Fly Lady and you can find her at www.flylady.net. Her system has you doing home caring in sections, a little at a time, and making daily maintenance a habit. It's awesome. Go to the "baby steps" section and give it a shot--even if you do end up getting pro help, it'll still help you in-between visits!!

I am on a tight budget too, how did you who have housekeepers find them? I have tried ads in the paper but no luck, not sure where to look now.

hello

You definitely have your hands full. I think you decide if how often. I am a widow no children living with me and I work full time and go to school. I have someone that comes about every two weeks for about 2 hours. I usually pay about 10 per hour unless, laundry needs to be done and then I pay a little more. I have a private lady and I have never tried a service but you know maybe every Monday some one comes and cleans the house and then maybe you and your husband do not have to so much over the weekend, or Maybe have her come in every Friday and then your weeks are free. A little quality time with your family might just be worth the price whatever it is.

Have a great day M.
