My 3 month old son has developed little bumps below his hairline on the back of his neck and also around the front of his neck. I'm not sure if it's a heat rash or not. Any advice on how to treat it? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Sounds like heat rash to me. DONT put anything on it! My husband gets it alot and they say just to put cool water on it. Heat rash is caused by pores getting clogged and putting anything on it will just worsen the problem. If you put cool water on it, and keep him cool, and it still doesn't go away, I would call the doctor. Give it 24 hours.

Eczema doesn't normally pop up on the back of the neck in babies (not saying it's not possible but unlikely)

Is he drooling a bunch

my little girl had the same type rash under her neck, but really red and kind of foul smelling which pedi told me was yeast. she gave me a cream to put on it. she also said after baths to put some talc powder on it--do not pour directly under neck but put on your fingers to help absorb the moisture. she said it is common since babies can't quite hold their heads up all the time combined with the heat. hope this helps!

Are you sure it is a heat rash? It might be eczema. I would take him to the doctor- pediatrician or pediatric dermatologist. My 7 month old developed something like you describe, but my father who is a dermatologist in another town, diagnosed her with eczema. I had tried to treat her with a lotion before the diagnosis and I just worsened it. Good luck!

It does sound like heat rash, my son was always very hot natured (like me) and sweated alot as a newborn. My advice is keep it dry with a little powder or cornstarch and dress him in cotton. If you notice his shirt being sweaty, change it or hold him up so it can air out and reapply powder. Also, make sure his clothes have all been washed before he wears them because new clothes have some kind of film on them that still makes me sweat a hundred times worse than normal.

**When applying powder, sprinkle it into your hand then rub it onto his neck otherwise he will have a face and lungfull of powder.

Babies will get all kinds of bumps, lumps, wrinkles and widgets! That's what makes them so fascinating - and sometimes a little worrisome. WedMd has slide shows of common skin issues. They are very detailed and give you Dr recommended treatments. Check it out before you call the doc. Good luck!
