Hello! I'm 12 weeks pregnant, and I have gained about 8lbs. I gain weight real easily. I need healthy snacks that are filling (because I get so hungry), and I can't really go on a diet while pregnant. I gained 35lbs with my first, and I want to try and gain a little less than that this time. Please don't say fruits and veggies. :) I already eat them, but they're not always that filling. I need healthy recipes for snacks and stuff. I cook pretty healthy lunches and dinners. Thank you!!

What can I do next?

I ate a lot of chicken and brown rice while I was pregnant with my daughter. I only gained 20lbs. With my son I gained 50lbs because I ate ice cream the whole time I was pregnant.

I would also suggest lots of fiber. If you like Rainsin Bran ceral, or something alot those lines. I eat Crunchy Raisin Bran now. I put some in a container with a lid and take it to work with me. I snack when I get hungry. I stay full and I know that fiber is good for me.

I am a senior midwife student. As long as you are eating healthy you should not worry how much you are gaining. We don't even routinely weigh our clients. You should be following the Brewer diet. You can read about it here: www.blueribbonbaby.org. This is the best diet for pregnant women. You should be aiming at getting 60-80 grams of protein daily, and limit your sugar intake. Good things for snacks are nuts, cheese, crackers, peanut butter on toast. Also, have you considered midwifery care for your pregnancy? Research has proven several times that for low risk pregnancies birth with a midwife is safer than the hospital. If you have any questions please ask.

Take Care,
Lisa

First of all congratulations! 35 lbs is not bad. You are correct that eating more healthy is the best.

Try Brown rice cooked with chicken broth. Add chicken and some veggies skillet grilled with a little olive oil and butter. It is really filling and with a salad it will fill you up. Keep cooked brown rice in the fridge, just microwave.

Keep cooked turkey bacon in the fridge.
On the multi grained toast, melt a thin layer of cheese! You could make a BLT with turkey bacon, extra thick slice of tomato and really crispy lettuce Add a egg to this sandwich for another great meal.
Eggs! Keep boiled eggs in the fridge.

Omellettes made with turkey bacon, cheese and (skillet) grilled veggies, yum, with a good muti seed and multi grained toast.

Grilled fish so filling. Also good with the brown rice.

Try pasta made with spinach or whole wheat. To get used to the flavor, I boil regular pasta and then boil the whole wheat. You can store it in ziploc bags in the fridge. Take a little of each and mix together in a skillet with a little olive oil, fresh garlic, a tiny bit of salt. Stir till pasta is lightly coated. Squeeze a little lemon juice on top and sprinkle Parmesan cheese and black pepper, it is awesome. You can add some veggies and chicken to really make a great meal. My family even likes this cold.

I too am pregnant and have found that eating something healthy every two hours keeps me full all the time. Eggs and oatmeal are very filling. I also snack on nuts and yogert.
