Hair Coloring - Going from Bleach Blonde to Way Darker Blonde

Hello again,

I have been coloring my own hair really light blonde for as long as I can remember. I would like to go back to my natural color which is really dark blonde/brown. I know the bleached hair doesn't take color as well and it doesn't turn out the right color usually.
Is there any kind of product I can get at Sally Beauty Supply etc to prepare my hair and color it right?
thank you

What can I do next?

I have always done my own hair as well. However, I was very blond for a while and wanted to go to a dark blond but it turned a really bad color (described as poo-green by a student.) I was able to correct it by using a red color. You might want to follow the other suggestions and shell out the dough for a salon.

Personally, I would save myself the grief of a color correction and go to a salon. I tried dying bleached hair about 15 years ago and came out with red hair. It took some time for it to grow out. I would suggest you go to a good salon and have lowlights put into your hair. This is a process where your hair is tinted a darker color than the blond hair. It is a more natural look and lasts longer than dying your hair (about 3 months). Since your hair is already bleached, a colorist should be able to do it.

It could be very tricky. Box color is way different then going to a salon. I am currently enrolled in Cosmetology school, if you are looking to save money you can always go to a school (they have full service salons that are at least half the price of a normal salon) to have it corrected.
When you bleach your hair you are removing pigments. When you want to go back darker, you have to add those pigments back in, and sometimes that can be a two step process, or you may need more pigments added into your color. A box color is definitely not going to do what you need it to do. Good luck!

I had a mishap when coloring my own brown hair too - I went too dark, used a "color remover", and it turned a brilliant shade of light orange! I had a job interview later that day and panicked, did not have $200 for "color correction" at the local salon, and decided to call the Clairol hotline to ask what shade to buy. Wow, was I surprised.

A very nice lady walked me through the process, suggested I not use their products (it would turn my overprocessed orange hair green) and suggested a specific shade from their competition's line. I was stunned she was so nice to help me out this way, tried it, and $10 and less than two hours later my hair was back to it's original natural-looking shade.

In your case your hair color change might be less dramatic but I found their help in selecting the right product and shade invaluable. PS - to this day I use Nice & Easy for the most natural results as other brands leave my hair brassy.

If you have the money I would go and get it done at a salon. They will have to use some type of filler on the hair first. If not then call one of the help lines on the back of the haircolor box. I am sure they can help you get the process right.

Good luck.
