Hair Color Disaster - Plain City,OH

Ok, so I colored my hair three days ago. I've colored it maybe a total of five or six times in the past two or three years. I've tried different shades between two different brands and every time they've turned out a little darker than I had hoped but I could live with the colors and they always lightened up with shampooing. So, this time, keeping that in mind I tried a lighter color. Well, you guessed it...Murphy's Law - it came out way too light and almost ORANGE!!!! BUT, exactly as it looks on the box!!! So, my question - how soon can I color it again? And will it matter if I switch brands? My hair is relatively healthy, the typical grey on top in front/sides. I want it to look nice for Christmas! HELP!!!! Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! I think for now I'm going to shampoo and condition it often in the next two weeks and then try again with a color I've already used and know what to expect! I can't afford a salon but maybe some day!!!

If you can afford it you might want to go to a salon so they can "fix" it - I think a cut/color is around $80 where I live.

Otherwise - I think you risk damaging your hair further and then they have to cut it off - yikes - good luck!

Remember what you learned in elementary school...yellow and red make orange. To counteract the orange, you need the third primary color (blue). To neutralize the orange, you want to use an color w/ a blue base (also called ash). Keep in mind, since you just colored your hair, it will take the color quicker and afterwards will tend to wash out/lighten quicker. I personally would wait a few days and get a good conditioning treatment or two before proceeding.

You can change brands but remember that some types will react with others so you may want to stay with the same line and just go a little darker w/ the ash base.

What many people don't pay attention to or realize is that the picture on the box isn't what their hair will look like because their starting hair color and/or condition of their hair is different. You can take three different people and use the same exact product and chances are they will all be a bit different.

Good luck.

Go to a colorist. You need help! I recommend Goldwell color. You can type in Goldwell in google and it will help you find a salon in your area that carries this product.

It's worth getting this fixed. Ore wise, you could fry your hair.

You can color the same day so long as you maintain brands. Otherwise wait a month...

There are demi-colors and washes that you can put over that, which will wash out within 2-5 weeks (depends on how often you shampoo) and by then it will be time to color again.

I would try a glaze to fix it at the moment ... it will temporarily help the color - this is best done at the salon at this point.
