Getting 3 1/2 Year Old to Sleep in Her Own Bed in Her Own Room

My 3 1/2 year old will be 4 in April and is still sleeping with me in my bed and always has since birth. We have tried several times and more to get her in her own bed which is in a room with an older sister but she will not do it. She cries herself sick until I finally let her in my bed due to not wanting her to throw up. She has never liked her crib as a baby and now says she likes her twin bed but will not go to sleep in it. I have to get her to sleep first by either laying in my bed with her or rocking her to sleep and then I put her in her bed and by 12:30 am or 1am she is in the bed with me again. I had no problem breaking my other children from this but for some reason the normal methods do not work on her. Please help.

What can I do next?

I slept with my kiddos for the longest time...neither of them enjoyed their crib, and I was not going to let them cry it out. As they both got older, I started trying to find a way to get them in their bed. I started the big boy and big girl fairy. If they slept in there bed throughout the night, the fairy would come and leave something under their pillow. I started doing little things like a sucker, money for their piggy banks, little trinket toys, etc. As they got used to that, I would only have the fairy come a couple of times a week. Eventually, the fairy just stops coming. I have had to recently go back and use the fairy when my son was having a hard time giving up his pacifier. The fairy worked like a charm. We are pretty strict in our routine at bedtime. The kids get ready for bed, hugs and kisses from me, and then my husband reads them a book and it is off to bed. It has been about eight months since we first started this, and we have had great success. Good luck!

I feel your pain!!! My daughter will be 4 April 20th and is screaming as I type this to get in my bed. I even have a little cot in my room next to my bed for her and she still isn't happy.

She loves her room and her bed during the day but at night its a different story!!!

I never had this problem with my boys who are 17 and 15.

If you find something that works let me know.

I did that with my son until he was 2. It is a vicious cycle to break. We just let him cry til he was sick. It took weeks for us to get to that point. But we needed our bed back and he needed to learn to fall asleep by himself. If I had it to do again, I never would have put him in our bed. That should be sacred ground and off limits.

Finally he did ii, it took about 3 weeks, but it was worth it,.

This may sound crazy but I read this somewhere and people said it worked but - here goes...sit next to her bed until she goes to sleep and each night you sit further and further away - ie: 2 nights next to it or on it, 2 nights 1 foot away, etc...until you are in the doorway visible and outside the doorway not visible to her and then finally alone. It sounded strange but for some reason, it stuck with me - and I never had to try it but would have...

Hey there, just some advice that has worked for us. My husband and I have been using the Leapfrog dreamscape soother. It works by pushing play and it glows in the dark while playing nighttime music. We begin our night routine brushteeth, read book, and then we tell her to play her music. We started this to help put her to sleep after we had our son , so she began @ 21 months using this. We will stay with her, for the first couple of songs, then walk out. The music helps to calm her down, and the light helps so the room is not so dark. My husband usually is the first one the music puts to sleep lol. I hope this helps, it really works for us. We bought it at Target @ 20.00.Remember to have extra batteries on hand!

I have a 7 yr old that i allowed to sleep with me since he was born. When he got older to sleep in his own bed i tried everything . Sometimes it helps to let them fall asleep with you then you can carry them to their own bed in middle of night. It worked for me. My son still sneaks into my bed sometimes but he gives me reasons mom i just want to snuggle with you some. So i allow that but then tell him he has his own bed to sleep in. He also has a night light in his room that changes colors all night so as to not be scared. Try that a few times see if it works. Done give up if after a week she still crawling in bed with you just keep at it. Good luck

I this problem with my daughter and I went little by little. I would lay down with her in her bed until she falls asleep once she is asleep i would go to my room. I know she is going to be in my bed by midnight but wen she gets to my bed in the middle of the night I would lead her to the restroom first and then back to her bed and stay with her until she falls asleep again. It will take time but is the easy way.
You also can try the hard way and not paying attention to her trowing up thing and let her in her room no matter wath
