My children's doctor does not provide flu shots so I was wondering where to get them and how much you have had to pay for them. If both my husband and I got them and they dont go to daycare do they still need to get them? All four of us got it last year and it was horrible- I dont want to go through that again.

What can I do next?

My daughter (age 6) has diabetes and her specialist doctor strongly recommended we get the flu shot for her but I don't think we will get it for my 3 year old.

I called around and the best place I found was CareNow. They are offering them on a walk in basis for ages 4 and up for $15. My daughters regular doctor was going to charge us $35. They have numerous locations throughout the metroplex. Their website is www.carenow.com if you wanted to try to find one close to you.

Hi Y.,
I have two small children 3 and 6 and my husband (a doctor) told me the flu shots are a waste of money, we are better off spending it on healthy food. Go figure!
Good luck!

Y., ask you doctor's office if your kids can get the Flu Mist vaccine. If so it's usually available at the Flower Mound Pharmacy. It cost a little more money than the shot and you must have a prescription for it from your children's doctor but I think it's worth it.

Getting the flu is not fun and even though they don't go to daycare the virus can be picked up anywhere you take the kids where there are other people coughing and sneezing, like the mall or grocery store.

visit www.thinktwice.com and read about the flu vaccine. I've been trying to decide too whether I should vaccinate my kids or not this flu season.... I think I'm going to look into some homeopathic alternatives.

Best of luck in your search of deciding what's best for you and yours.

The pharmasist at Albetson's told me that most stores won't do children under 12, they have to be done in a dr.'s office. Maybe someone else has found a place that will do younger one's. My 8 year old has had the shot and mist and has never had the flu. I will be getting my 15 month old twin boys one this year because sister is around all kinds of germs at school all day.

Your best defense against the flu is to eat healthy (avoiding lots of sugars that weaken the immune system), getting proper rest, avoiding stress and washing your hands diligently. That's really important for your 2 1/2 year old and even for your 10 month old if he handles toys that other kids have touched.

If you do decide to get a flu shot, make sure it does not contain thimersol (mercury) or aluminum. Both of those substances are toxic to your nervous system. And before you get the FluMist vaccine, take a look at this:

I've never gotten a flu shot and haven't gotten the flu for years. My husband always gets a flu shot and often has the flu. So, I've not seen any correlation that suggests that the flu shot is useful and that's substantiated by research which shows there have actually been more flu related deaths amongst the elderly since vaccinations have increased:

I think you're much better off spending that money on healthy organic fruit and some vitamin C supplements like Emer-gen-C.

I've seen them being given at CVS pharmacy and I think also at Tom Thumb and Kroger pharmacies also. My daughter (9) always gets the flu mist - it was $35 at my dr. office. The flu shot was $23 at CVS last week.

good luck!
