Hello Mamas,

My daughter is 13 months old today and still has no teeth. Her pediatrician is not concerned. I'm a little paranoid (first time mommy :-)), and was wondering if other mommies experienced a similar situation, and when their child's first teeth finally came in. :-)

What can I do next?

This is normal. She will probably be the last one to lose her teeth, too. My daughters both got teeth at 7 or 8 months, but their cousin got her FIRST tooth at 15 months. Teething is really one thing that is all over the map in terms of time frame. She's fine.

I have twin boys. The bigger twin had teeth at 8mo. The smaller twin didn't have teeth until 14mo. After that they all came in fine and at 4 years he has a healthy mouth full of teeth. I wouldn't worry a bit.

No worries. All of my kids were different.

#1 got teeth at 8 months and started some solid food at 8.5 months and breastfed for 16 months.

#2 got teeth at 4 months and started some solid food at 4.5 months and breastfed for 16 months.

#3 got teeth at 12 months and started some solid food at 18 months and breastfed for 18 months. She's now almost 23 months and her last canine is trying to come in.

They are all different....so don't stress.

thats not unusual. Mine were unusual and cut them at three months relax and give her a leather strap to chew on or teething ring or teething cookies.
there are no hard fast rules for teething cause mine broke all of them both of mine did.

Don't worry - all four of my kids had teeth that came in after 1 year of age - the latest of them was 15 months old. I, too, was worried and talked to my dentist. She actually said that generally the teeth are stronger when they come in late. They also usually do not lose them until later - mine didn't start losing them until they were in second grade. My kids are now from 11 to 22 and they have great teeth. Good luck! J.

Hi! If her pediatrician isn't concerned, I wouldn't worry about it. I've heard of kids being almost 2 before their first teeth came in. Our nephew is about 14 months and he's working on getting his first tooth... lots of drooling, chewing on everything, etc., but still no tooth. Our daughter however, had 4 teeth by the time she was 4 months old, so it really varies by each baby/child. Babies are pretty good at gumming food to eat, so having no teeth usually doesn't stop them from eating a good variety of first foods.
Hope this helps ease your concern :)

Both my kiddos didn't get their first teeth until well after their 1st birthday. My youngest just turned 2 and she still doesn't have her 4 canine teeth and will also get another set of molars. This is normal. My doctor said it is better because they have less of a chance to get cavities :)

I didn't have teeth until I was 18 months old. I also have VERY healthy teeth. The dentist told my mother that children who get their teeth later are less likely to develop cavities in their baby teeth, and in my case it was true. Don't worry. :) Once teeth do arrive, make sure you begin using baby training toothpaste immediately and do not put your daughter to bed with milk or juice in a bottle, this can cause decay.

I have an acquaintance who's daughter was 16 months when hers started coming in. It was tough to always have to give only pureed, soft foods for so long. She is a healthy-super bright teen now. Maybe bit of a picky eater, but what child isn't? I wouldn't worry.

my daughter is 17 months and just got her top 2 teeth in. So she now has 4. My other kids were late bloomers too. My 6 year old just lost his top 2 teeth. Kind of funny that the baby gets her teeth and my son loses his.

Yep, been there. No worries. My son didn't start getting his teeth until after 12 mon was 3 before he got all his baby teeth in. We thought he was never going to get them all. Second time around, my daughter is 10 mon and has her bottoms and is cutting her tops. I guess each kid is different but the docs said not to worry!

I feel your pAin, as my second daughter didn't get her first tooth until 19 months!! I swear, I was so worried, and nobody else was and then sure enough, she got a tooth and by the time the month was out, she had 5-6 and got the rest the following month. Teething wasn't horriblr, like you'd imagine, she would just wake up with another tooth poking through. Anyway, I hope this saves you the extra doctor and dentist visits that I had to go through. Good luck!

no concern. 6 months is normal but can be either way a few months. All kids different. If you are really concerned you can get an xray to see if there are toothbuds, but I would not expose my 13 mo old to the radiation. Look for a bit of white like pressing on the tissue of the lower anterior area also. Make sure you massage or they are knawing at foods in front too.M. RDH Oral facial myofunctional therapist.

My son was 14 months when he got his first. He finished with his molars around 3 years old. His teeth came in slowly. Teething didn't seem too bad either. The dentist actually says the longer they take to come out the stronger they are. My son is 5 1/2 and always has perfect dental appts. They also say that he will loose his first tooth very late. He will probably be 7 before he looses his first baby tooth, while all his friends have already started loosing their teeth at 5. So no need to worry it is actually a good thing.
