My 5 year-old daughter fell and had a cut on her right eye brow a week ago. She got three stitches. Two days ago, the stitches were taken out. Anybody had experience to take care of scar? I am so concerned it will leave a permenant scar on her face. The area seemed dry by now. But there is a thin gap or line and raised skin around it. The doctors at Emergency recommened coconut butter and her nurse recommended Mcderma. My question was can I clean her scar with water now? I applied coconut butter last night and suncreen this morning. I wonder if I had done it too soon. Any advice? thanks

What can I do next?

My daughter had open heart surgery and we put Scar Zone on it. Its a cream you can buy over the counter at Savon or Longs Drugs. It works great! Good Luck Also keep sunscreen on the area...scars and sun don't work well together.

My 6-month old had a 2nd degree burn on her cheek. The Burn Center gave me an antibiotic ointment to use until it healed and then said to put vitamin E and sunscreen after it completed healing. I was so concerned with scarring. I read online for hours about burn treatments and over and over I read that Maderma and Vitamin E have no proven effects. Not the answer I wanted at all. So after all of my research and talking to several doctors, the answer was that sunscreen every day for at least a year is the most important. And that keeping it moist can help. I apply Aquaphor twice a day in addition to the sunscreen. I tried vitamin E (pricked the capsules) but after a week or two noticed little bumps on the scar. I read that this could happen (contact dermatitis) and could make the scar worse so I stopped. The best news is, after one month her scar is almost GONE! Kid's skin is SO resilient. I'm amazed. And in answer to your specific question you need to wait until the scab is completely gone before applying anything besides antibiotic ointment. Infection can worsen the scar. Hope this helps.

We used Mederma for Kids on our 2 year old when she burned her arm on a pot lid sitting in the sink. You can't see it at all now. The only bummer is you have to keep on it 3+ times a day. The kids one is purple and smells just like grape juice too!

I hear the McDerma works good and the Vitamin E is good too. If the doctor recommended coconut butter then I would say water is fine since the other two have more irritants. Also, don't forget about Neosporene. I know that's spelled wrong. Not my strong point.
