My 13 month old sleeps 12 to 13 hours a night and takes two 2 to 3 hour naps a day. I'm not complaining, it just seems like a lot of sleep to me.

What can I do next?

I have a 14 month old and it sounds pretty normal although she seems to be losing her second nap now (morning one) and only moving to an afternoon one.
Depending on the day she may sleep more because I may have worn her out more at a playgroup.
The other alternative is a grouchy baby which really stinks.

Look, I'm not doctor, but children do require lots of sleep. My son is almost 2 and he still sleeps 10-11 hours at night and takes 1 two hour nap and 1 one hour nap a day. It will all work out and just think eventually your child won't be taking any naps at all. If you are still concerned though, consult your pediatrician.

I don't think so. My 16 month old does about the same thing, 11 to 12 hours at night and 2 to 3 hour nap during the day. They are growing...so they need their rest!

I don't want to alarm you, but better safe than sorry....If it's a sudden change I would let his doctor know. If your son has always slept like that it's probably nothing. My cousin's son started sleeping a lot more and they thought it was due to a growth spurt and him playing a lot harder. Then they noticed bad bruising and it ended up being lukemia. They caught it very early and he's in remission. Just be alert to other signs.

My dd slept alot like your dd and she still needs alot of sleep at 27 yrs old! After her, I had a ds who never took more than a 45 minute nap ever and stopped altogether at age 2! I would say she is fine as long as she is getting mental and physical exercise daily, but you may want to ask your pediatrician to ease your mind. Good luck!

Hi!
My first daughter slept the same way until she was 2 1/2yrs. Everyone was shocked when I told them about her sleeping habits, but she's healthy 6 yr. old now! My second daughter just turned two last month, and she has basically already given up her naps completely! All I know, is that little ones are ALL different.
I do agree though, however, that if it is a sudden change in habits, that I would talk with your doctor - just to be safe :*)

My kids are 2 and 4 and they both still sleep 11-12 hours per night. My daughter had to stop taking naps at 1 1/2 years old because if she took even an hour nap she wouldn't go to bed until around 2 am, I would be fighting with her until then to get her to sleep. My son is 2 and is ready to stop taking naps now also. I honestly think that babies just need alot of sleep. I have a heart problem myself and do require more sleep than the average person but both of my kids have been checked for this because it is hereditary and they are perfectly fine healthy kids so I would not worry, it's normal for children to sleep alot.

At that age my daughter would sleep about 12 hours at night and then take one 2-4 hour nap during the day. Now, at two, she sleeps 12 hours at night and takes one 2 hour nap in the afternoons. consider yourself lucky!!
