I've never worn makeup consistently...only for special events and i thought i looked fine. But lately, I've been noticing that my complexion just looks BLAH...like i don't have as much color in my skin and my features don't pop as much as they used to. do you normally lose coloring as you age (I'm 30)? thanks!

What can I do next?

I only need foundation up here in the north. My complexion is a fright. Stick me in some sun, though (real sun, pointing downward, or mostly...refelcted off snow or water is just fine as well) and my skin evens out and glows. My skin just isn't designed for all this constant cloud cover. Blotchy, pallid, sickly. Rings under my eyes.

My SISTER otoh has porcelain skin. Her skin looks best OUT of the sun. So I wear foundation up here, she wears foundation in sunny climates.

I always wear mascara, and usually wear liner.

I'm 44, have never worn make-up regularly and still don't :) And I look damn good (I think) for a 44 year old. I don't moisturize, I don't exfoliate (ok maybe I kinda do since I use a bath poof and just scrub my whole body with that, with whatever soap I'm using on my body), don't wear sunscreen, and go out in the sun on a daily basis to do what I do daily (go to school and take my kids to school).

Part of the "less color" to our skin as we age is the fact we're not out in it like we used to be as kids. Our days are spent in offices/indoors and MUCH less time outside, even in the evenings in the summer.

Which is actually better for your skin overall ... afterall the process of turning cow hide into leather is called TANNING.

But I suppose if you wanna take the time you can do a bunch of the tips below :) I personally don't ... I'm lazy that way ... I'd rather sleep the extra half hour than go through all that mess.

sounds like you could use a good facial! Go get one :) I think make-up is a great thing and you don't have to buy tons and multiple items to keep it simple. and look put together. Go get a consultation on colors and your facial and I think you'll feel better :)

I'm a Mary Kay consultant, so this is my opinion... YES! LOL

Try an at-home microdermabrasion to get a really good exfoliation. As we get older the cycle of skin being made and naturally exfoliated slows down, so you are looking at old skin that hasn't come off yet. Then make sure you moisturize well afterwards. If you don't moisturize after you exfoliate, your skin will be dry, dry, dry! And that's never attractive!

I'm a hairstylist/former makeup artist. Yes, your skin gets more dull, loses it's elasticity and fine lines and age spots start to appear. I'm your age and am starting to notice this as well. Make sure you are wearing a good moisturizer with an spf during the day. If you don't want to wear makeup, you can get a tinted moisturizer. Or use just a small amount of mineral powder. Use a good exfoliating cleanser or facial mask once a week. Drinking plenty of water and eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables help as well.

I haven't used makeup in years. I don't work anywhere that requires it so I screw it. It gives me zits any ways.

My skin does this if I don't drink enough water (which is a lot) or if I'm not in the sun alot.. I never wear makeup either but I do use things like a moisturizer that "glows" I think it's from cindy crawfords line, it works so well on my skin and it's a good preventative for wrinkles and such.. I can see a big diff when I use it consistently.. If my skin gets bad enough I'll throw on a powder bronzer and problem solved.. I started using preventatives a few years ago (maybe when I was 23?) so hopefully that'll keep me from having to deal with makeup for a while.

Try exfoliating once or twice a week and see how that helps, and of course always moisturize.

If I wanna look smokin hot I got have makeup on.

I am 28. And this year has hit me hard.

My skin is weird and I am breaking out like a 14 year old boy....I never got zits....It's also a awkward color because I actually got a Tan this year...So I am not digging being non casper...I kind liked it.

Anyways...I will through some make up on every now and then....Date nights...or a day I will be out in public alot....It is not that I am insecure....I just like being smokin hot around strangers:)

I am sure it is just apart of the aging process.

I am battling the grey hair blues because I started getting them all over and alot about a month ago....I have been stocking up on hair dye.

Getting old is awkward......But underneath all that awkward I have found a very beautiful soul:)

Makeup is always a choice, at any age. Skincare of some sort, on the other hand, is probably necessary for most of us. But alot of how our skin looks is genetic (mother's and/or father's), and how much we stay out of the sun (which I am not willing to do).

And sorry, but I had to laugh that 30 is considered "getting older"... ? I turned 50 this year and I guess I'm punishing everyone around me by going around with bare skin... We will ALL get wrinkles no matter how much money we spend on products. I'm doing my best to make mine smile lines and not frown ones.

What the heck?!? Just so you know, wearing makeup is not "taking care of your face" nor will it prevent wrinkles.

I am 30. My facial skin is...well...I don't have acne, I don't have wrinkles, and I have a nice even complexion. I attribute this to the fact that I have NEVER worn makeup. I wash my face every morning with a foaming facial wash...I switch brands every time the bottle runs out, but think Clean and Clear, Oil of Olay, etc...and in the winter, if my skin gets a little dry, I use Ponds cold cream. That's it.

And it isn't genetic...my mom is a mess of wrinkles and nasty discolored skin. Of course, she tanned and wore makeup, and didn't eat healthy her entire life. I don't necessarily eat as well as I could (I eat plenty of chocolate, etc) but I do make sure I drink enough water every day.

I have always worn makeup I started at a very young age & still am i'm 31.I have to more so now because of all the pregnancies my skin has been through alot, plus I have Roscea so I like that to be covered up as much as possible, women look pretty without it some look hideous wearing it, it just depends what color your skin tone is,what colors you match & whether or not your putting too much on the more not always better.Do you exfoliate at least once a week, take good care of your skin, moisturize? If not begin to do so,you don't have to wear foundation I love my tinted moisturizer with powder, eye shadow, eye liner, light blush, lipgloss I feel so much better wearing it that on the days like today without it.

I just wear the same I always have... but my husband doesn't even know when I wear make-up or not nor if I have a new shade of lipstick.

I wear lip stains, eye liner. Just a translucent powder. No need for foundation. Never have worn that.

But I also do daily skin care.

Don't know about losing color as we age.
