Direct TV Issues?

My husband had the dumb idea to get Direct TV. I can't stand it! Does anyone else have issues with losing signal? We have not had local channels all day but we get cable channels. Whenever it storms we lose all signal and can't watch at all. I'm so done with Direct TV!!! Does anyone know how much it would cost to break contract?

What can I do next?

The only issue we have had with Direct TV is when a storm is coming in a certain direction. We have had Direct TV for 8 years. Love it.

I would call. Sounds like the set up might be off or the satellite needs to move moved. Their customer service is good.

Definitely call them! We have had some really good experiences with their customer service people. They got us a box upgrade at one point, at no charge, worked like a charm after that.

When we first got DirecTV, the satellite receiver was installed on our roof. It seemed like we'd lose our signal any time a breeze blew or a snowflake fell. We had the roof replaced a couple of years ago & decided to relocate the dish to the ground next to our garage. We still lose the signal at times, but usually only during a heavy downpour. Other than that, we've never had a problem!

Those issues go with ALL satellite companies - Dish is actually worse in our area. For us, cable was even worse. If you don't want it to lose signal, go to Over the Air instead.

Direct TV has pretty good customer service, call them with your issues.

We have had it for 11 years now, four different houses. The only house where it didn't work was when we had a lot of trees.

You need to call them, they will send someone out to fix it. I bet it wasn't set up right in the first place.

We rarely lose signal even in storms. The kids even say "oh it's a bad one!" when it goes out - because it hardly ever does.

My bill is also insanely low for what we have. I haven't been under contract with them for several years now and don't plan on going back under contract, but we really like what we get from them.

I had Direct for two months. Seemed like every time I sat down to watch TV a storm would come up. I did not have a contract.

We have, DISH network.
NEVER had any problems.
And if there was some technical thing "wrong" or we didn't know how, their telephone customer service has always been awesome AND when they come to our house to troubleshoot something even minor, they have always been great.

Direct TV, is more for sports etc. from what I was told. It has more sports channels apparently and they heavily advertise. (?)

We have, tons of channels.
DISH has a variety of packages/channels. Including our own local channels.

Even when we have had storms, we still had intermittent connections. But of course, if there is a total cloud cover/thunderstorm/hurricane, well, we may lose connection. No biggie. BUT we can still watch what we have on our DVR.

Just call them.
Tell them your complaints.
And see what can be done about it.

I have Direct TV for a long time. Call them, you may just need to move the satellite receiver.
I know their customer service is great.
They will do what it takes to keep you happy
Good luck

If the problem is mainly with your local channels then the problem isn't with Direct TV, if you lose all signal and can get nothing then your satellite probably needs to be adjusted. I've had them for a year, and we get some serious storms, like fish buried in snow, high winds storms, and have never lost or signal.

I'm sorry you are having problems with DirecTV. you need to call the 800 and have someone out to look at the dish.

If you go to your settings - you can check your signal levels...I would actually need to look at my remote to do it.

Yes, we lose our signal during storms - for about 2 to 5 minutes. And then that's it.

Go to your http://www.directv.com/ account and see what the cost is to cancel the contract. I've been with DirecTV since 2007. Other than storms...no real issues.

I had DTV for several years, and only lost signal a handful of times. If you have other channels and not local ones, then something is wrong with your account. And if you lose signal every time it rains, and not just during really major storms, you equipment isn't set up right. Call them before you lose a bunch of money breaking the contract.

We had this issue but finally got it worked out. The box outside that plugs the satellite wires into then also connects the wires for the house may be damaged. Ours was incorrectly installed and so water was running straight down the wires into the box. The inside of the box and the connections rusted. It took two different technicians to figure this out but now we have had zero issues. I've had Direct TV off and on for about 15 years now and love it. I always go back to them when we move back from overseas. Their customer service is outstanding I've never had any issues other than the rusted box.
