Time Warner Rates Increased Again!!!

I am so tired for Time Warner raising their rates. I haven't tracked it, but it seems like every 6 months the prices are raised $5! We have our land line, internet and cable TV with them. We don't have movie stations and we have standard digital service and it is still a small fortune.

Does anyone have experience with Dish Network? We would love to decrease our bill!

What can I do next?

Sorry, can't help but just wanted to say...I gave up any kind of cable TV almost 20 years ago and haven't missed it one bit! My kids and I get videos from the library - FREE - play games and lots of other stuff instead of watching a lot of tv. My land-line is bare minimum service; same with my high-speed internet connection.

I think the cable companies are a big rip-off!!!

Good luck!!

I am with you on time warner. Annoying how thry love to up their costs with worse service. We are right now in the midst of getting an ooma phone to dump their phone. We also just got a roku box so we can just watch tv on hulu plus and netflix. We will have to keep internet so we will have basic cable with them. We are going this route since we found if we watch tv it is basic channels and tend to dvr everything else. But with tye rates always going up, we cant do it anymor. Heck, we moved across town (same city) and our prices and channels were different. We had to add to have the same channels. Pathetic if you ask me.

I also have DISH network and have never had a problem. We left Time Warner for the same reason. We also cancelled our internet with them and now have ATT - it's $35 a month for high speed and it seems no different than Road Runner.
Added - Also, their customer service is much better than Time Warner!

We've had DirecTV for years and love it. Every time their rates start to increase, my husband calls and asks for a lower rate.
They always have new customer deals going in.
So if they say no to him, he asks them to cancel his contract, and then he'll sign back up again. LOL!
He always gets the low intro rate! :)

You have to be vigilant with carriers. If you're not, they'll rake you over the coals.

We have had dish for many years. We do not have any of the movie channels that you have to pay for. We down graded to the basic plan and I for one hate it. I lost a few channels that I would rather have. However it does seem like we have had several rate incresses over the past few years. We see all the adds and get stuff in the mail that is half of what we pay and has more channels but that is only for new members when we call to ask them about it. If we did not have all old tv's that need converter boxes I am sure that my husband would cancel Dish in fact we have been with them so long that we no longer have a contract with them. It has been over 12 years that my husband has been with them. When we moved there were a few problems that we had with the guys that came and installed the system. They did not hook up any of the components but the reciever. We do not have DVR we have a VCR and a DVD player hooked to it. I had to hook them both up as well as remove the cables that they used even after I told them that they could not hook it up that way because of my DVD player and find my old cables that we used at our other house. Then they told me that that reciever does not work. Well come to find out they had the card installed upside down or backwards in the reciver just so that we had to get a new reciver and we do not like the new recievers becasue every time I want to record something late at night it goes into some program update and this is about every night. Other than the fact that the guys that hooked up our recievers when we moved and the rate hikes that we have gotten I have been happy. Oh, the other thing about satelite is when you get a heavy or hard rain storm when you really need to be able to watch the news as to what is going on it goes out because of lost signal. This is a downside to any satelite tv system. Also at our other house we had to go out and brush the dish off when we got a really wet snow. the dish was attached to our deck so it was no big deal. However here if I have to brush the dish off I will not be able to do so because it is on the roof. If you get the dish attatached to the roof you also have to pay to have it readjusted when you have any repairs done to your roof like having the roof replaced or if you have a leak somewhere close to the dish due to wind or hail damage. That is some of the down sides of having it on the roof. Sorry this is so long but you wanted to hear experiences with Dish Network and I do not think that you were getting all the details.
Good luck.

I love Dish! Like others mentioned, you get the discounted rate for 1 year, when you sign up for 2. I picked Dish over Direct TV because 1 receiver covers 2 TVs (Direct requires a receiver for each television). DVR is great - I couldn't imagine having to sit through commercials again. Plus, I record shows I would otherwise miss. You can also record 2 shows at the same time. So worth the extra $6 a month to me.

If you connect your receiver to the internet, you have access to Dish On Demand. I recently added Blockbuster Movie Pass for $10 a month. So far we like it better than Netflix, and cheaper. We can stream movies and TV shows for free and get 1 DVD at a time in the mail with unlimited exchanges by mail or in store.

Good luck!

We switched to Dish about a year ago for the same reason! Actually we did away with our home phone & just use our cell phones, and that saved us quite a bit. We still have Time Warner for our internet, because satellite internet isn't available in our area for some reason. But we downgraded to the most basic Roadrunner package and haven't noticed a difference. We got the 2 year package from Dish Network where you get half price for the first year, and it saved us a lot. We also fell in love with dvr, being able to pause live tv, and so on. Not sure how we ever watched ANYTHING before dvr!

The only downside switching from cable to satellite is that with one receiver, you can only get 2 signals. But that hasn't been a problem at all, like we thought it would.

Also I just remembered, if you do want to switch, I have a $50 off voucher for new subscribers, let me know if you want it and I'll email it to you.

If you want more info just message me, but in short - we love Dish and I recommend it!

Me too and I don't even have a land line - just internet and cable TV. My bill is sooooo high it's ridiculous! I know a few people with Dish and they say not to get it, they only have trouble so I don't know what the answer is. I'm looking forward to ideas and responses to this!

I've had Dish for years without any problems, and have been happy with the service. They do occasionally raise rates like all the other companies out there, but it's never been an unreasonable rate and they seem to give plenty of notice.
