I had two preemies...a boy at 30 weeks, and a girl at 27. During the first two years it is improtant to remember that he is 2 months younger than his actual age. For preemies you also want to give them a little extra range to reach their milestones. My son still wouldn't sit until he was more than 8 months old. Just encourage tummy time to give him the opportunity to develop those neck and shoulder muscles. It is helpful if you are on the floor with him also to keep him interested. Keep in mind that even a few minutes is better than nothing...both of my children detested tummy time. As far as the feedings he is probably eating what he needs for his size and weight...as long as he is continuing to thrive just follow his cues. Check with his doctor about starting solids...some encourage it while others prefer waiting for their adjusted age to catch up.
Are their any programs in your area of other parents with preemies? you can check with the nicu they usually can give you oodles of info. Your pediatrician or the local school district may have some also. most areas have great parents as teachers programs. The first year with a preemie is, in my experience, very difficult. Very rewarding, yes, but rough on your nerves. after the first birthday it tends to get easier.

Since he was 2 1/2 months early, he should be developing at a 4 1/2 month level now, where he should be almost able to hold up his head on his belly. Many 4 1/2 month olds can't roll over yet. As for the feedings, he's probably getting enough for his size weight. Do you have a parent educator from the parents as teachers program?? Your local district should offer a program. They can be great at offering sugggestions and pointing out possible delays and where to go. I would also talk to your pediatrician about the motor development. He might suggest First Steps to evaluate him (it's a state funded program who provides therapy services to kiddos with delays).
I have a 5 year old who was really late with all his gross motor milestones. He wasn't a preemie, but at 1 year old, all he could do was sit. He never rolled over. He started crawling at 15 months, and walking at 18 months. We did a little physical therapy with him and it gave him the boost to get going. Now, he's 5 and doesn't slow down-you'd never know anything went on that first year-and-a-half.

Good Luck!!

Hi A.
My boys were born at 34 weeks and one of the twins was in the NICU for 2 months. He is behind his brother and it sounds similar to your son. He didn't roll over until about 7 months and he is not as strong as his brother. Preemies do develope a little slower than a full term baby. My boys are 9 months now and both are sitting up, rolling over and starting to crawl. The one is still about 4 weeks behind his brother. Hope this helps, but I would talk to your doctor.
