I'm looking for a place to meet some friends to celebrate an upcoming 30 something birthday. We all live in South Johnson COunty and would like to stay out here. However, we are all out of the loop. Are there any bars that have dancing on the weekends that are not totally the 21 crowd and are not a total hole in the wall pit? Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I'm not sure if it's in SJCO or not but for my birthday which is the 22nd, we are going to Dave and Busters on the 27th. I's not a dance club or anything like that...but it's Chucky Cheese for big people!!

I don't know if they have a dance floor, but a lot of folks our age hit the Fox and Hound on 103rd and Metcalf. They have pretty good food and a nice bar atmosphere.

Check out TC Dance Club International. It's at 91st and Metcalf in Overland Park, I believe. They have a website, too. You can get lessons before and then there is an open bar party. I used to take lessons from there. Everyone dances with everyone (married or single). It's pretty fun and it's a nice place!

There's a club/lounge called Manhattan's off 135th & Stateline area. I haven't been there yet, but it sounds like a very nice place. Take a look at the website. Have fun! http://www.manhattanskc.com/

The most recent place I've been to that have a mix of all ages is the P&L District in downtown KC. It's not So OP, but why not live a little and venture out of your comfort zone, and go somewhere different. Howl at the Moon is a piano bar, but there are some dance places, too. I'm 38, age is just a number anyway, but I felt totally comfortable there and just like old times, I was carded more than once! Parking is close by, too. Some place to consider, good luck with your plans!

There's a place in Raytown called Funkytown (yeah Funkytown). I've never been there, but my daughter (24) went once with her friend and her friends parents (50 something). She says its much more fun and laid back than anyplace she's been to before and now she goes there every once and a while with her friends. I think it plays more oldies (like Funkytown maybe?) but it sounds fun. It's at 350 highway and 63 street.
My daughter went to the Power and Light district with several friends one night and had fun until they went into one bar who wouldn't let her black friends in (they were wearing the exact same type of clothing that the white friends were wearing that had already been admitted into the club, but they were denied admission because of their dress). I guess one of the white friends was really offended and almost had the police called on her until one of the friends took out his badge and showed the bouncer he was a KC police officer, ironically he was one of the black men being denied admission! Sorry, I just had to get this story out, it has turned me against the P & L district all together.
