Cycle Increasing by a Day Each Month..29 Day Cycle to Now 35??

My boyfriend and I aren't using any type of BC...not planning, not preventing. Every month.. my period is late, and every month, it gets later by a day. It started with only one day late, and now 4 months later its 6 days late. (the month before being 5 days, before that 4...) I have taken a pregnancy test and it's negative. Has anyone had this happen to them? I'm going to the obgyn tomorrow, just curious what other mamas have to say. Thanks!

** My cycle started off being 28-29 days.. Then went to 30, 31, 32... growing a day longer each cycle..**
Also just to add, this is very abnormal for me. I have gotten my period since 11 years, every 29 days like clockwork. I finally got my period time AM, almost a week late?? I was supposed to go to the OBGYN today, but they canceled because of the LOVELY snow. I will keep all mamas informed when i can.

One mom said something about a thyroid, which makes me concerned because I am also having a very hard time losing weight. I have gained almost 30 lbs since my son was born 19 months ago.. maybe Under active thyroid? Will see what the doc says..

I have also been in several times this month for abnormal paps, and have had a Colposcopy done to see what's up. I'll find out as soon as i get this appt. rescheduled. Maybe that also has something to do with it? Thanks again.

What can I do next?

I was just at the doctor for a problem with my period. It was always 28 days and now is like 21 days. They said all is okay just probably my body aging and hormones fluctuating.
Perhaps the same thing but I would call. Good Luck

Your cycle can change based on so many factors. Stress in your life. Change in diet. Began an exercise plan. I know before having my first child I was very regular. After I had my daughter it definitely became harder to know when I would get my period. I have completely missed months before, but haven't been pregnant. So anyways, I don't think there's anything to be concerned about. Now if your period starts becoming heavier or lighter on a regular basis or lasts a lot longer or shorter than it used to then I would say you might need to discuss it with your OB. Right now it's doubtful there's anything to worry about though.

hi J.,
i am 39 years old and not using any birth control (my husband has had the surgery. amyway, my cycle is doing the same thing as your is. usually womens cycle goes around the month,ie: first month starts at 20th, next month may start at19th or 18th, next month 17th or 16th, until it eventually goes through the entire month, thats natural. mine however is going the other way. starts at the 20th and the next month starts at the 21st or the 22nd, next month 23rd or 24th. going around the month this way. i have never had this happen before this year. i know i am not pregnant, so i just figured it was my body changing and got use to it. i guess i dont really have any advise for you, just letting you know your not the only one whos cycle is going backwards!! its strange isnt it? ill keep checking back to see what advise you get. and if you get any from your dr. id love to know what they said if you dont mind. just curious now, are you getting really bad cramps that are making you sick too? i am and that isnt normal for me. it doesnt happen every month to me, but once in a while, when i dont get any bloating the week before.
good luck, and i hope you find everything is okay with your body, and its just a change in cycles.
take care,
A.

I am in the same situation only mine are coming sooner and sooner. I think that after coming off of BC we are still adjusting to our normal schedule. I know this takes months. A normal cycle can take up to 35 days (if I remember the number correctly). I wouldn't worry unless you are having a lot of pain.

The length of your cycle probably just changed. I can't tell if your latest period is six days late as in your whole cycle is six days longer than the cycle before it, or six days late as measured from that first period. If it is the latter, your cycle is probably just 29 or 30 days rather than 28. If it's the former, I'm not sure. Good luck!

Hi Be lucky it is only 1 day late every month. Mine is a week late every month. Like the month of February I didn't have it at all. So here it is the beginning of March and I am still waiting. I have changed my eating and I am working out more. So I figured that is why it has changed. But other then that I dunno. Ask the doctor. But When I asked they wanted to put my on BC pills and I didn't want to. So I guess I will have to deal with it coming whenever it feels like it. Good luck.

Actually, this started happening to me, but by a day or two more than a day. I finally had spotting half way through (at ovulation) and went in to see OB-GYN. They think I have a uterine polyp. I go in for a hysteroscopy to see what's going on this Thursday. My best advice--you're doing the right thing not ignoring what might seem to some as a minor symptom! I am hoping for you that your dr. says "its nothing." Better a dr. says it than anyone else!

Hi J.,
the same thing happened to me when i came off birth control pills. It turned out I wasn't ovulating consistently due to some hormone deficiency. They found it through blood tests. I took Clomid to force ovulation when I wanted to get pregnant and have 3 beautiful children. I still have very irregular periods, only every 3 or 4 months which is ok since my husband had a vasectomy and i am not worried all the time that i am pregnnt!

My cycle did the opposite - started coming earlier and earlier. I was down to maybe a twenty-three day cycle with spotting in between. One doctor told me this was normal. A different doctor did a TSH test and I had hypothyroidism. It doesn't hurt to pursue it, because there could be some underlying cause.

Hormonal changes can account for a lot of things, but I would have a full battery of blood tests so that you have all of the info at the same time. Yes, an underactive thyroid can cause fertility and weight problems, and can be detected through a TSH test. Blood work to check your estrogen and progesterone at different times in your cycle is a good idea. This could cause problems with the timing of your cycle but also with fertility. Get checked out so you don't make yourself crazy. The abnormal pap should be rechecked too - make sure your doctor is vigilant.

Good luck and let us know what happens.
