Cramping

This week, near the beginning of the week, I was sitting at work and started getting cramps below my abdomen (like period cramps). Then the cramping would move to my lower back. I almost always cramp 1 week before my menstrual cycle, but this one was different. Normally, the cramping is mild, but this time it was painful. It wasn't painful enough for me to leave work, but painful enough to not be able to concentrate on work. I am wondering if it's because I went off birth control 3-4 weeks ago and maybe my body is all messed up. I can't imagine it's implantation of pregnancy because it's too soon and I really honestly doubt I am pregnant. Which means it couldn't be an ectopic pregnancy either. What do you think?

What can I do next?

If you went off birth control, you could be pregnant. I was told by my doctor that you are the most fertile the month you go off the pill. I always thought it took 3 months or so, but I was pregnant that first month going off of it.

BC pills suppress ovulation. Your ovaries haven't released an egg in a while and you might have felt it. Sometimes there are ovarian cysts which cause pain.
(One of my ovaries has scar tissue and is fused to the bowel. So sometimes the cramps can be painful and lower back pain is usually part of the pain. We thought it was ovarian cyst until my C-section when the scar tissue was discovered.)
If the pain went away, it is most likely ovulation related. If the pain continues then contact your doctor.

All it takes is one missed pill. I would have it checked out. Sounds serious to me.

Yes it could be an etopic pregnancy. It could also be an ovarian cyst or a number of other things however if you started having pain on monday your tube would have ruptured and you would have already been hospitalized by now. Call your doctor and go in and have it checked.

I think it is related to going off of the birth control pills. After all, the pills work by changing your menstrual cycle using hormones. Well, if you take the pills/extra hormone away, your body needs some time to adjust. I went off of my birth control pills 10 weeks ago and my period still hasn't regulated itself. My doctor said we just need to give it some time.

Don't be surprised to see a huge difference in your periods now. Going off BC totally does a number on your body. For me it was about 6 months of going off and WHAM!!! Periods were worse, cramps worse, acne like I was 16yo again (actually worse I didn't have it this bad as a teenager). It took about 1 year for my body to feel like it was totally back to normal, but I am so glad I did. My husband had the snip, snip because BC was actually worse for me. If your trying to get pregnant goodluck, but don't be surprised to see your body do some strange things.

I agree it's probably because your system is getting used to not having the hormones in it. Also, if you've been on the pill for a while, your body has had "irregular" cycles. I mean, they were probably regulated to a 28-day time period, however, that's irregular in the whole scheme of things and so your body may just be going back to whatever it's own "regular" is.

i went off BC last dec. (i was on the shot) and i have had so many weird things happen with my periods/hormones. the hormones are trying to even out in your body and it will get better over time! previous to the BC, i never had cramps like i do now. my nurse told me it was the hormanes coming back and it could take up to a year for it to regulate. good luck!

Well, birth control drastically affects your periods (makes them all but go away in some people). So it's very likely this is simply your normal period returning!!
