Any suggestions for gift for daddy on father's day from 1 year old son?
We already have lot of 'junk' at homw so avoiding adding to it - like coffee mugs etc. I am really not sure what my husband would enjoy. I know he will appreciate whatever he gets.
What was that gift your baby gave to his dad who seemed to have everything already? Thanks!

We are South African, So I just got some South African Food goodies online (that I know he will love) and we will make him a little gift basket full of treats and a personalized card from my son.

If you have not done so already, do hand prints on the side of the fathers day card, or footprints. I do this every year now so he can see how my son is growing up.. the hand print gets bigger and bigger with each card..

Here is what you need for a nice foot print gift:

Supplies:
Cardstock
Inkpad or Paint or Scissors

Directions:
Trace, Paint or Stamp your child's feet onto the cardstock and cut out. Write on the footprints, the below poem and glue the prints to cardstock. Frame or turn into a card.

"Walk a little slower Daddy" said a child so small,
"I'm following in your footsteps and I don't want to fall.

Sometimes your steps are very fast,
Sometimes they're hard to see;
So walk a little slower, Daddy,
For you are leading M..

Someday when I'm all grown up,
You're what I want to be;
Then I will have a little child
Who'll want to follow M..

And I would want to lead just right,
And know that I was true,
So walk a little slower, Daddy,
For I must follow you."

Somehow I have started buying things for my SON for Father's Day/birthdays.

Last year I took my husband's first grade picture and had it put on t-shirt for my three year old son to wear. He laughs everytime he wears it. SOOOO many people do a double take because his hair was WHITE and straight. Now it's dark and curly.

His birthday was a week ago. I bought a baseball hat for my son to match one of his MANY Tampa Bay Buccaneers baseball hats. It was scandalous that he didn't ALREADY have one but my son's head is too small even for youth sized but I made it work.

They have those T-shirts out with the paint so you can do handprints on his shirt. I've seen them at walmart.

Well, if you are wanting it to be truly from you son, you could make something. When my kids were one, my MIL had the kids do hand print stepping stones. I love them. It's a sweet reminder of when my kids were babies. Last year when my daughter was 1, I bought a stack of post it notes. She colored the sides. Then hubby was able to use it in his office. When my son was 1, I let him paint some coasters for Daddy's desk at work. We do one "homemade" gift and then we also usually buy something special for Daddy.

You've gotten a lot of great suggestions already, but I'll just add that a cute "daddy" frame for his desk at work or dresser at home with a pic of him with his son is another idea.

I haven't done this yet, but i heard from someone else that thye had started a notebook from the kids to the daddy, rather than buying expensive cards that just get thrown away, Each Father's day and Daddy's Birthday, the kids would write him something in the booklet, and put it on his chair for him to find in the morning, or after work. At the beginning, it was a handprint, ot tracing their hand, and M. writing things about Dad, then later toddler scribbles, and maybe their name signed,and they would tell M. their favorits things to write about Daddy for them,a nd then later on sentences and drawings and letters to Daddy they made all by themselves. A very neat long ter keepsake book.

I plan to start ours this year ( my kids are 2 and 4), for Father's day - just buy a nice hardcover blank sketch book or notebook, or even use a binder or photo album and if you like scrapbooking, you can make it as plain or fancy as you like! To start out you could do a picture of Daddy and baby together, trace baby's hand, and write what you think your baby thinks of his dad, and what you think makes hima great father!

I did a framed hand print when my son was almost one, and then had him decorate a pot and put a plant in it for his office when my son was two. But, he keeps the plant in the bathroom instead and I'm not sure he really likes it. So, I tried doing a stepping stone (as mentioned below). He loved it. So, now we do one every year and have a path with them in the backyard (only two, so far but number three will be there soon). When our second child was born, we included her in the tradition. I have them do hand or foot prints and decorate it and I add the date. You can find little kits at hobby supply stores.

For my husbands first fathers day our son gave him tickets to a baseball game. The 3 of us went and had a great time even though our son was not quite 1 year old.

Something with your son's photo on it, like a mousepad or a framed photo for his office. most of the online sites, like shutterfly (generally most expensive), winkflash, and snapfish have sales going on right now for Father's day.

Love the mugs with the pictures on them. I just ordered one from Walgreens.com and used a pic of my husband and two little ones fishing on Memorial Day weekend, just choose a favorite pic and you can personalize with a sweet message.
