I had an IUI done this cycle. I have a history of irregular periods. I have felt some symptoms: burping, diarrhea, nausea. My doctor told me I could test 12 days after IUI. I had impantation bleeding/cramping on day 6 post IUI. I have cheated and taken a home pregnancy test and only a very very faint positive line appears. I'm wondering because of my irregular periods is it possible that 12 days post IUI is too soon to test? Any input please, losing my mind. Has anyone had a negative home pregnancy test and then a postiive blood test at doctor's office?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Sorry, realized that I never posted a follow-up to my story. So My levels increased with my next doctor's visit. Unfortunetely, I misscarried a couple days later. We switched to a new doctor/facility and are hoping to turn a new leaf. Thanks for your input

Nope no too early to test if you use one of the early pg test that test the hcg level at 20. call the fertiltiy dr and tell him you had a faint + , they will get you in for your blood hcg and you will have your real answer and able to compare numbers for the next two days!

If a very very faint positive line appears within the regular 5 minute window, it's a positive pregnancy test. Congratulations! Take another test in a couple of days to be sure, or call the doc and ask for a blood test, but it looks like you're good!

Did you take a hcg shot? If you did that can give you a false positive. It takes 10-12 days for that to leave your system. So if you tested 12 days after most likely its a positive but I would test again just to make sure.
Good luck

It could be too soon since the doctor's test is usually as early as they can be.

I can tell you that I did IUI with my first child and tested the night before my Dr's test and mine was negative. The dr. called the following night and said it was positive and I almost didn't believe it--they will give you a number and as long as the # they give you doubles within 2 days then it is a confirmed positive.

I tested again at home that evening after the call and again the next morning and got 2 more negative results. My follow up test showed the #s doubled and I was pregnant--never got a positive result at home.

We did IVF with my daughter and I quit testing at home because of the results I had previously.

I did have a situation prior to conceiving my daughter where I had a positive test initially at the dr. but with a very low # but they still consider it positive. So I started believing it and then it didn't double--that was the worst emotional rollercoaster and generally I'm pretty even keel about those things.

Best of luck, I know the stress and ups and downs are tough. Staying calm and trying not to think about it (which is nearly impossible) are the best ways to cope with it.

A positive is a positive. I had a very faint positive line with my almost 4 year old. Unless anything happens between now and the doctors office you should be good. Congratulations.

well, heart burn, diarrhea and nausea sound like pregnancy to me! I also thought ANY line however faint on a home test was positive! Get to the doctor's for another test, and good luck! And congratulations, you don't say what your situation is, but BABIES are the best!

It is standard practice to discourage testing before 12 days past possible insemination, no matter the cycle length. Irregular cycles make it more difficult to determine when your body releases the egg, but if they performed an IUI, they probably got that pegged down. The worry with testing too early is what is called a "chemical pregnancy." In this case, the egg is successfully fertilized and begins the implantation process, but just doesn't finish "latching on to the uterine wall" before the body sends signals that it's time to menstrate. I don't know the specifics of your irregular cycle, but if you have a shorter leutal phase than that could be the problem you've had in conceiving.

You did not mention, but have you been on any hormone injections in preparation for the IUI? These can sometimes affect teest results, so keep that in mind.

In other news, even a very faint positive is positive! Although, the last time I took tests, I just didn't feel like I could trust the second line, so I bought one of the pregnancy tests that says "Pregnant." For some reason, seeing it in writing made me believe it more. Think good thoughts, visualize a strong, healthy baby, and treat your body like you're pregnant.

Good luck!
