Cleaning...ugh!

Hi All,

OK, so I admit it...I am procrastinating! :)

I have to go downstairs and clean out and rearrange my familyroom/playroom/pigsty and turn it into somewhere 10 teenage boys would want to hang out! It is my SS's 16th birthday party this weekend and he is having a boy/girl party til 11pm then having 10 of his best buds spend the night for an XBOX marathon...

I have borrowed my nephews XBOX and TV and combined it with our 2 XBOX's and am gonna set them all 3 up on the fireplace and let them have had it. I plan on throwing some food and some soda and some cake at them and then leaving them be...

11 teenage boys to feed for 2 meals...yikes...what have I gotten myself into?

It sounded like a good idea at the time but now I am dreading it...and procrastinating...

Thanks for the allowed vent!

What can I do next?

easy breezy! a crockpot of chili & the fixings. throw in the cake, soda, & lots of chips......& they'll be fine.

For breakfast, do a huge pan of scrambled eggs....& use the leftover toppings from the chili! Bake some biscuits.....& they'll be happy. OR 2 dozen donuts & milk...........& they'll be even happier!

Been there, done that.....boys are soooo much easier than girls! Have FUN!!

My best quality is procrastination. Sometimes, I like to think of it as my "zen" moment before the storm. =)

Sounds like it'll be fine. Especially teenage boys. All they need are their games and food.... then they'll be happy. Boys aren't picky.

Good luck!

That sounds like a lot of fun!! They will love it! If teenage boys are anything like college boys (or young married men) they won't notice if things are clean as long as they can find the food, bathroom, and the games. Do a quick sweep, set up, find SEVERAL small plastic trash bins to throw in the corners (not that they will necessarily get their trash in there, but it will make your clean-up better), and dig out your earplugs. What a great idea for a party for the boys!

Might I recommend you only set up now and clean AFTER the party with that many guys playing and eating. Believe me, they will not notice any dirt with all those great games to play!

And what a fantastic bday idea - I'm going to copy you for sure. My son attended a gaming bday part but the mom rented a truck to come over that had all the games/couches in a big Uhaul type rig. I like your idea better, borrow the games set them all up in the room and let them go at it. It was the talk of the school for a long time after. This will make my 11 yr. old ecstatic :)

Tyson's anytizers are not cheap but easy to recreate on your own with chicken tenders cut up, breaded baked then tossed in a sauce and baked again.
Gamers need finger foods that are not too messy (dont want to get food on the controller) fast and easy so you are good togo on this one!
It will be a blast this is basically my house every other weekend anyways.

Sing it....Just a spoonful of sugar, makes the medicine go down....

Turn on your favorite music and get started. Your 16 year old is going to have the time of his life and you can will help that happen.

After, while they are all going crazy, curl up in your favorite place and smile!

Well done, you're about to make some fantastic memories.

Don't clean, just set up, unless you have giant rabbit sized dustbunnies and stuff like that. They're a bunch of boys so they're not going to notice a little dust or something out of place. And you're gonna have to clean after they leave and crumb-ify the place so you might as well wait to clean till after LOL!

Chips & salsa, I like the chili idea - easy to cook and serve, etc. You're a doll!

Okay, it's your SS's birthday party, get him down there to help clean. You'll be working your rear off during and after the party, so he can help out now. Put everyone in the house to work. It will go much faster.

Have fun, and I like the pizza to order idea. A bunch of pizza dough (I think you could get some premade at one of the local take-n-bake shops.) Or, just go get a couple of different ones at the take-n-bake. It will be cheaper and you get the good smells of pizza cooking.

We did the same sort of thing for the 16th birthday. We made up lots of pizza dough and did all kinds of pizzas to order. Rolled the dough out onto a pan and added cheese, olives when wanted or salami, gorgonzola, peppers, etc we had it all waiting in the frig. Pretzels, chips and dips sat around the room to be replaced as needed.
Kids that age really eat. I bought a box of oranges and lots of orange juice, the sodas from the health food store went into an enormous cooler surrounded by ice and that was the simple menu.

Do the basics, the things that are really important to you and have your SS help with all the rest. After all it is his birthday. He can help prepare AND take down the room. Also have one of the meals be pizza--delivered of course. Have the breakfast be something the boys can help prepare and clean up. There is no reason you have to do it all.

I think what you have planned sounds like a BLAST for your SS and his friends. Have you asked him what he would like to eat? Pizza is always easy, Dominos 3 mediums for 5 bucks each or Lil Caesars for $5 each? Chips, candy they like. Also, how about sliced apples with a sweet dip? I was at a party recently with a caramel, cream cheese, brown sugar dip and the kids ate every apple and were begging for more for the dip. My SD had 30 kids here for her sweet 16 and we served an ice cream sundae bar that she helped me shop for. Ie, ice cream flavors/toppings. With him being a boy, maybe just the basics, but that is fun and something besides cake or cupcakes, although maybe a little messier? What kinds of foods do he and his friends typically like to gorge on? Have fun and don't stress about it! They will most likely be focused on the Xbox games going on anyhow. :)
