Tasha-
I have used baking soda. Where the accident happened wet the carpet a bit and clean up what you can. After you are through cleaning up the worst of the problem sprinkle baking soda on the damp area. Let it sit for a while till the rest of the carpet dries then vacuum up. You may have to brush the carpet a little. This should leave the carpet clean and the odor gone. This has worked for me.

Distilled white vinegar so that it doesn't smell up the carpet...it works on hard wood floors as well. Get up any excess pee first. Just put a little on a dishtowel and pat on the spot. Works great!

I JUST had my carpets cleaned last week for this reason.
The man that cleaned him did an amazing job and told me to use nothing except a TINY bit of laundry detergent and water.....
if the smell is an issue AFTER it is dry to sprinkle it with baking soda and wait over night to vacuum becuase all the spray on cleaners do is force the potty stuff into the pad and create foam when we finally call cleaners.....
Good luck.

Cornstarch has worked great for us on the urine accidents. You can soak up some of the urine but you don't have to. You spread the cornstarch over the area and let it soak it up. You will want to let it dry thoroughly and then you can vaccuum it up. I would however recommend using the hand attachment on the vaccuum to clean it up. We had some issues with just regular vaccuuming. We have no staining or smell issues. It is an inexpensive and simple way to handle the mess.

2T white vinegar + 2T liquid laundry detergent +2C water. Dab it on, don't rub the carpet, just wipe and rinse until it's gone. Works on a lot of stains.

If the accident is on carpet you can use hydrogen proxide and put a white towel down on it with about 5lbs on top of that and it pulls the stain and santizes.

"Kids and Pets" brand stain remover works great. I originally bought it for dog messes and then found out it works on kid messes too.(throw-up, urine ect.) It's sold at Taget and some grocery stores.

As far as bringing the smell out you can pour some vinegar on it and then wait a few minutes then put baking soda on it to bring it up out of the carpet you won't have a smell problem
make sure you soak up as much as you can before putting the vinegar on it

I use protek which you can only order online at protek chemicals.com. Its environmentally safe and nontoxic when mixed right. It is also a tax write off. I love the stuff you can use it for almost everything.

I liked Folex best. But if there is truely nothing, Try baking soda. Just put it on and let it sit and saok up. Don't touch. vacum when dry. It may turn your carpet a bit whitish until you are able to have it cleaned. At minimum. Get lots of paper towels or hand towel and set over the area. then put a heavy book on it. The moisture should mostly wick up.

Seventh Generation spray kitchen cleaner. Soak the stain, put pads of paper towels down and press. Repeat paper towels until liquid stops soaking through. No stain, no smell.

I do the vinegar and water, or borax (I tell everyone the borax lol) it's great, it gets rid of the urine smell and keeps stains away since it is the main ingredient in most stain boosters...I put it on and let it soak up if it is recent, or if I found it after it is dry, I wet it a little with the borax and then dab at it and vacuum it up. I love the borax because it is $4 for a box and I use it to help keep my laundry clean, as a cleaning agent for my sinks and tubs and hard water stains in the toilet and best of course...the potty accidents. in our house that includes dog, cat and dd. lol.

Vinegar. It neutralizes the ph levels and removes the smell. You can cleanse it first with say, Bleach or carpet cleaner, and then dilute vinegar 1/1 ratio. One cup v. to one cup water. You can also add a cup to your washing machine to help get the "smell" out of your laundry. Hope this helps!

I have a great little hand-held carpet cleaner (it's like a dustbuster - but it's a carpet cleaner). It uses carpet cleaner like the professionals use and then it sucks all of it back up with the vacuum part of it. It's been a life saver.
