My daughters hair is really long (it goes past her diaper) and it is straight and blonde and I would love to have hair this beautiful. Everyone who meets her comments on how pretty her hair is. But it is such a pain to take care of. She has a habbit of twirling her hair and by the end of the day it is a rats nest. I lather her hair in conditioner and use detangler, but I still end up pulling out a ton of hair when I try and brush the tangles out. Any suggestion would be appreciated. I would love to cut it (even if a few inches) but both my husband and my mom have forbid it so that isnt really an option. So, any ideas on getting her to stop twirling it or really good conditioers for childrens tangles- really anything so I can stop pulling out chunks of my little girls hair.

What can I do next?

I noticed that one of my other granddaughters had the same problem when on a visit there. I've been through a couple of generations of long hair and have some simple suggestions. I know she is small, but I got some extra wide tooth combs to start with. It helps to begin at the ends of the hair about an inch up and comb down, then move up a little until you reach the scalp. You can "hold" the hair and protect the pulling effect if you start at the bottom as well. Conditioner helps too, but they make a spray-on detangeler.
I also use a plastic tooth brush with protected tips the same way as a wide tooth comb. If you are still having problems, work your fingers gently through her hair before you use the comb.
Sometimes new combs are sharp on the tooth tips. I use a fingernail file to smooth them when they are new. Hope this helps!

If I were you I would keep it in braids or find a way to keep it up in pony tails of some sort.

hi Y.,
let your husband brush her hair for 2 weeks every day. I bet he will agree to cut it shorter! For a child that young I don't think it is a joy to have hair that long. Is she crying when you brush it? I remember I always did because it hurt, but mine was not half as long as your child's.

Good luck,

I.

Hi Y.! You would not belive how many times I have heard your same problem from other moms! I know a wonderful solution though! I highly recommend using Arbonne's "To the Rescue, Hair Protectant." It works wonders on children's fine hair, especially for girls with very long hair. You can go out in the sun or water without getting dry, damaged hair with this conditioning spray that detangles and adds a naturaly, healthy luster to your hair. I have extremely fine hair myself, and use this product every day. Arbonne's all-natural products are completely pure, safe and beneficial. I wouldn't use anything else on my family! :) If you would like to learn more about this product, you can check out my website at: www.mandyolsen.myarbonne.com or email me at ____@____.com. I'd be happy to send you some! Take care,

Hi,
I had really long and thick hair growing up. My mom kept my hair in two braided pony tails for most days during the week and only let me wear it down for church or for school pictures. My hair would get so tangled and i'm very tender headed so that worked well for me.

There are not any children's conditioners that are going to get the tangles out because they are all tear free. I would get Biolage instacure or biolage condioning balm. Remember adult conditioner doesn't hurt their eyes, its the shampoo. Try this and because she twirls her hair it will break some of the ends off, so there's your other problem dead end, thats why its harder to brush towards the bottom of her hair. You should get all the dead ends cut off, that will make your life a little easier!! Good Luck!!
