My girls 1st birthday is tomorrow and I'm wondering if I can get a small ice cream birthday cake for her to celebrate. Can 1 year olds have ice cream?

What can I do next?

From what I know, I would keep all dairy products out of her life. You can start now before she even knows the difference. Give her organic almond milk. Milk and soy are very dangerous to the human body these days. Read a great book called The UNhealthy Truth to learn more.

I think one year is when they are first able to try milk. Dairy is already hard to digest, but ice cream, being cold and suagry and processed is way harder. I think it is too complex for a one year old. There will be plenty of years for ice cream, years she will actually remember... Ice cream will probably give her a runny nose now or a cold or cough. Be careful!

I did to my kids!In small amounts and they were fine after, they didn't have any issues after they ate it. Goog luck and happy birthday to "YOU" and you baby, I think the first year is so hard (and fun)for the mommies that we should be celebrated too. Have too kids girl 5 and boy 2 1/2

I am infatuated with a cookbook called the "Sneaky Chef," and I remembered that she had some "ice cream" recipes in there.
Her chocolate covered strawberry ice cream was 2 c of frozen strawberries, 1/2 ripe avocado, 1/2 c skim milk, -- tsp sugar or honey, 2 tbsp semisweet chocolate chips.
Put ingredients in food processor and puree on high.
Your processor will really start rocking at first because of the strawberries, but if you stick with it, it is a MUCH healthier (and pretty easy) version of ice cream.
PS I left out the amount of sugar so I wasn't plagiarizing :) I would say just do a little at a time to find the amount that pleases your palate. Enjoy!

My first husband had a very chubby friend that would always come over and take advantage of the fact that we had a milkshake maker(wedding gift)and ice cream on hand. You can imagine my horror when I turned the corner to my kitchen to find my 3 MONTH old son, happily perched in his infant seat at the table, next to my ex's buddy, mouth open like a little bird, waiting to be straw-fed chocolate milkshake from his Godfather! I was more worried about a milk reaction, that kind of thing, but he had no problems. I would suggest that prior to the party, maybe let him test out a spoonful of ice cream and see how he handles it.

YES!! Your daughter can have ice cream at a year.. of course use your Mommy discretion on the amount cause you dont want her bouncing off the walls from to much sugar.. but a lil wont hurt.. truth is .. she might not even like it yet.. my 11 yr old preferred bread to sweets until he was 3.. lol... God Bless!!

Let her have a bite. It's the photographs with her one candle and the little hand in the cake that make memories.

My husband took our son out for ice cream when he was about six months old. Not something I would have done done but our son loved it and suffered no ill effect.

I wouldn't do it as ice cream cakes are generally made from cows milk. Unless your beautiful baby girl is a calf she shouldn't be given the breast milk from a cow. Not to mention that there are pus particles, hormones and other harmful long term ingredients in it.
Why not make a simple cake that's not overloaded with sugar so that she can get a healthy start?
Enjoy her celebration, it's not long before you turn around and she's grown up.

Unless they have milk allergies, yes, but you'll never know until you try. After my childs first experience with ice cream, I found out he had had ice cream at 4 months thanks to my grandma!
That's what grandmas are for right? He's still alive!

sure they can. you should be transitioning anyway from formula to milk at a year, so it will not hurt the baby.

Oh yes. You can try the yogurt icecream in Walmart, Publix if you're concerned about the milk issue, but after a year they can have whole milk anyway, so it shouldn't matter. Have fun and let him enjoy!
