Hello ladies! We have a new baby on the way, so we need to our toddler (22 months) and 6 year old to share a room. Which features should I get to keep things as safe as possible for the toddler. I know to get guard rails, but I would love to hear from those who have these beds. Thanks!!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We ordered bunk beds with a trundle so hopefully all 3 girls can share a room when they are developmentally able. Eventually when my oldest is ready, she can have her own room again.

My friend got a bed for her son that has a slide on it. It is not as tall as a real bunkbed - probably 4ft off the ground - and has a tent area underneath it. It only has the top bed, but you could slide a toddler bed sized mattress under in the tent area and have plenty of room to make a cool sleeping area for your 22 mo old. They would eventually outgrow it though in 3-4yrs.

We got my son a great bed at IKEA called the "Kura Reversible Bed" - it's like a small loft bed and you can put a twin mattress on the floor to use it like a bunk bed. It was much more reasonable then other kids' beds that we looked at. You can go to www.ikea.com to see what it looks like.

Either or would be fine. With the loft bed you could have your almost 2 yr old in a toddler bed if you wanted and then switch later. There is a furnature place here in Flat Rock that has a lot of bunk beds to choose from and is VERY reasonable. It is called Carl's Furnature. It is family owned and I have bought several mattresses, dressers and a bunk bed (A frame/full on bottom and twin on top) for my teenager and 5 yr old daughters) Their website is http://www.carlsfurniturewarehouse.com/

It is well worth checking out. Like I said it has a large selection of bunk beds and lofts as well.

My kids have University Loft Furniture. We got it at Art Van and we LOVE it! It is "modular" and so versatile...we switch it around all the time (just did so again yesterday!) Here is a link to their website...I hope it works. http://www.universityloft.com/category-view.aspx?category...

There are several different collections in different color finishes. Beds can be regular height beds, loft height, or bunkbed height. Desks, dressers, shelves, chairs, can fit under depending on which height you have the furniture set up at. My kids also like to have nothing under the loft height bed and use it like a fort or Lego play area. It is not cheap, but since it is built for college dorm rooms (those can get a bit rowdy!) it is very durable and super easy to take apart and put back together. You don't even need a screwdriver to take them apart and move them around. I figured these would be the only beds I would ever buy my kids...and hopefully they can take them with them when they move out!
Good luck!

My SIL got a bunk bed from IKEA that has the bottom bunk on the floor which makes the top bunk much lower! I have accually thought about getting them for my girls who share a finished attic with low ceilings!

We have a similar situation. The ladder for our bunk beds hooks over the side of the top bunk and is removable, so I took it off as soon as they woke up in the morning and laid it on the top bunk so I didn't have to worry about my two year old climbing up there during the day. Also, I was very strict about the fact that the top bunk was only for sleeping and the two year old was not allowed up there without me being there. Best wishes to your expanding family!
