Birth Control Not Working Properly?

I had a beautiful little boy in late June. I began taking the same birth control that I was taking before the pregnancy. (Seasonale) You are supposed to have 4 periods per year while on this BC pill. It USED to work- but since the baby, I have random periods and spotting. I have given it nearly 6 months and I am getting frustrated with it. Has anyone else experienced this with your current form of birth control? Has my body just changed so much that I need to try a different pill? My doc said it will work eventually, but i am getting frustrated. I'm not on any kind of a schedule. 2 weeks on 4 weeks off 1 week on 2 weeks off- etc. Help! I'm going crazy! Thanks

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your advice. I feel more at ease about the problem (not happy about it-but better that I'm not alone). I guess I need to give it a bit more time.. Thanks again!

HA - YEP! Went through the same thing. I started taking BC after my daughter was born b/c we learned how babies are made (Our kids are just shy of being 14 mos apart)...hehe. Anyways, it was very frustrating b/c I did the same thing as you, one week on 4 weeks off two weeks on 1 week off.. and then even got to the point that I had it for a straight month!!! I called my dr and they said it could take 3 to 6 mos for my body to regulate it self. Honestly... I threw in the towel b/c I was miserable with how I was feeling taking the BC and ALWAYS being on my period. And, again, we learned how babies are made, haha... and we just use other protection. Good Luck with it! Iti just may take a while longer yet.

I know what you are going through. I was on the pill for 8 years before I had my first baby, with no complications or side effects. I went back to the same pill after she was born and had all sorts of side effects, acne (which I've never really had),cramps and huge mood swings. I stopped taking it because I knew I wanted another baby. We had to use an ovulation monitor the first time, so I wasn't too nervous. After my second pregnancy (twins) I tried 5 different Rx's before I found one that works right. I had spotting, terrible cramps and crazy sweating with some of them. I was also worried that they weren't keeping me safe from pregnancy. I did have an ovarian cyst that my GYN said could have been adding to the complications. That went away on its own. I have been on this pill for 6 months (it took 3-4 for it to regulate) and as long as I remember to take it the same time every day I don't have any spotting or anything. Thank you for reminding me to go take my pill :) Hope you find something that works.

I have had the same problem for a long time now. I was told that your body can get used to the pill you are taking and that it is time to switch to a 'stronger' pill. This used to work for me. I have to say though that I had to change pills about every 2 years. Eventually it stopped working for me altogether. Right now I have an IUD and am dealing with spotting all the time. The Dr. told me to give it 6 month before doing anything. I can understand your frustration, I feel the same way and like I said before, I have been there many times.

I take Seasonale, too, and it took a while for my body to adjust to it...and I hadn't even given birth recently when I started taking it. I had some "break-through bleeding" the first year, but my doctor assured me that it was still effective. (Evidently he was right since I didn't conceive.) Stick with it. It's so worth it!

just read your post and i wanted you to know that i think you're perfectly normal. i also think it's entirely likely that your typical body chemistry has changed due to your pregnancy (congradulations!!!) as has mine. i myself have not had a real period since i became pregnant and my son is 8 months old now. are you breastfeeding? lots of times that will prevent a period from returning, though i spotted a couple of times while i was breastfeeding and have barely spotted since. i am not on birth control since i'm no longer sexually active but i was on depo directly after pregnancy from my doctor's pressuring me. hope this helps

the same thing happened after each of my kids and changing BC didn't help, your doc is right it really will work itself out, most ppl experience similar things when they first start up on any form of BC that stops or delays your period, and they go through the same things then when they stop taking it, it's just the way your body is adjusting to teh pill, i'd give it more time let your body seetle back down it had a very long workout there for 9 months and you haven't even given it that long to get back to waht it had been.

Try Mirena. I had it put in almost 4 years ago. It is good up to five years and after 3 months, I have had no periods whatsoever. It is the perfect birth control for me! Good Luck!
