My mom wants to buy my 28 month old daughter a train set for Christmas. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on which one is the best to buy. Thanks!
My mother bought my son a train set from FAO Schwartz. It's a wooden set and is compatible with the Thomas Trains. You can also find Thomas and Thomas clones at Costco and other places. The wooden Thomas trains were by far the best investment. They're well built and my son still plays with them fromm time to time.
When our daughter was around 2-3, we bought a Thomas the Train set at Northpark Mall for about $120 or so. We did not buy a table. We bought a nice set that had a few pieces, mat and track....all tucked nicely into the box. We added pieces occasionally and she had a nice set. It still fits in the original box.
She turns 15 on 12/27, we still have the train set, put away for safe keeping. She loved this set and used it a lot with her friends. It was not a waste of money at all.

My son got a Geotrax set when he was 2. He also has a wooden set but never plays with it. It falls over when he crawls over it. The Geotrax snap together so he can sit on them without messing them up. Also, they have remote control train cars that he loves.
We bought our kids Thomas the Train wooden train set with table. They love it and it almost 2 years old and still looks new. You cannot hardly damage these train sets.
