Baby Shower Gift for Second Child

A good friend of mine is having a second child. Her first is a girl, and so is the new baby. I'm trying to come up with a thoughtful shower gift. Any ideas? Unless it is something really special I don't want to give her clothes since she already has a large wardrobe from the first. She also has most of the usual supplies, so I'm trying to find something unique and special that doesn't cost too much. Perhaps the $30-40 range. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I don't know if you are crafty or maybe you know someone who is, but I made my sister in-law a bow holder with her daughters name and matched it with the theme of her bedding and made a bunch of bows to clip on there and headbands.

Anything new out that she didn't have with the first? Bumbo seats were not out when I had my first 2 so I bought one with my 3rd and loved it..I would have loved it more as a gift. Also anything for the new babys room would be nice if you know the theme

What about a pretty picture frame maybe even personalized and a gift cert or membership to the local photo studio. you know those younger siblings that never have pictures because the mom was too busy.

Honestly, for baby #2 I'd give diapers. When my twins were born, they were my first. We were given tons of gifts, of course, but diapers were a huge part of it. We were so blessed that we didn't have to buy diapers until my babies were 5 months old!!! (So, that would be like 10 months old for a singleton)

What about something personalized if you know the babies name. First or 20th that would mean a lot to me.

-Personalized Christmas ornament with baby's name on it.
-Diapers
-Offer to babysit the older child for a few hours.
-Something for mom: silver necklace w/2 charms (they don't have to be baby charms but if you want them to be they could be a bottle and a pacifier or 2 baby blocks etc.
-Personalized onsie that says "Little Sister" and a personalized T-shirt for sister that says "Big Sister". You don't to order them if you don't want to. Can make them in expensively yourself!

Time away from her adorable babies-
make and give several certificates for free babysitting or uninterrupted naps (I napped whenever I could with my second-she was a difficult sleeper and naps were INVALUABLE to me). It was nice having friends come and take care of my little ones for an hour or two so I could nap.
Membership to a local or nearby or public venue that is kid friendly.

something personalized but meaningful

something hand-crafted

Second babies do get a lot of hand-me-downs. I'd go for something for when the child is older - those kids wear out their clothes once they are mobile. Also, something creative like a housecleaning or laundry service for the first month might be terrific. And I agree that diaper cakes are really cute as well as practical.

Another option is a CD with lullabies - it's always nice to have new supplies as the old tunes get kinda, well... OLD!

One gift we got that was awesome was a snow suit for 18 months of age - everyone was buying infant wear but nothing for toddler wear!

What about O. of these microwavable stuffed animals? They're very unique and kids LOVE them! She'll use it when she's older.

I like to make diaper cakes with personalized touches. I make nursing covers and matching boppy covers with some sort of personalized design.

You could also get a nice trinket to be the diaper cake "topper." Like a pair of earrings, or something special for the baby.

I like the idea of getting something for the baby with their name embroidered on it or her initials.

How about a "Big Sister" shirt for the big sister? Doesn't have to be a gift for the baby does it? I guess it's a 'baby shower' so maybe it does. I dunno.

If she doesn't have a white noise machine, that might be a good idea. With big sister's voice on top of Mom's and Dad's, baby might need to drown out noises.

A few years ago I don't think teethingbling was invented, so it's likely she didn't have it for her first. Check it out at www.teethingbling.com and then buy it cheaper from Amazon.com They're a rubbery texture, exactly what my son liked when he was teething.

Other than that - a whole bunch of diapers and wipes sounds about right.

I would give her a card and on the inside write a note saying something like "I know with 2 the days will be long, so I will sit while you are gone."..LOL in other words offer some baby sitting days and prepare some dinners for her, also diapers, diapers, diapers...

Here are the things I ended up buying with the 2nd one: New Baby Bath Tub, Double Stroller, Baby Memory Book, new infant/baby books to read, nice baby blanket (just for her), decor for the nursery, new bath toys, new diaper bag that was bigger for double the amount of things. Hope that helps!

A gift card to www.safeway.com so she can have her groceries delivered. Either that, or offer to go to the grocery store for her. Remember how hard it is to get babies into and out of the car.
