Baby and Anesthesia While Sealant Put on Teeth - Scared

1st off... CONGRATS on being a cancer survivor! I am one too (almost 5 years)and have a 2 year old ! Truly a miracle I know! My 2 year old was put under anethesia when she had tubes put in when she was just 14 months old. She did very well. When she came out of the surgery and was waking up, she was a bit scared and did seem disoriented. Just remember not to get frustrated at all of the screaming and wiggling. Just be calm and cuddle her. It will pass soon. I would bring a favorite toy or something that will help calm her. At first she will be really confused, just be patient and she will calm down and then spend the rest of the day resting. I know you are scared! I was too. I think that if you trust your doctor and the anethesiologist then you should not worry about it not being at cooks ~ Lots of great doctors work at cooks, but they also work outside of cooks too! Everything will be alright, just breath and remember you are doing this for her own good. It will be over before you know it!

No advice, but I'll pray for your baby! I live right by Dr. Lloyd's office, and have heard VERY good things about him.

I am not sure if this will help you, my son had tubes put in at a surgery center in Jan. I was the same way as you I wanted them to do it at Cooks, but not an option. I was so scared of putting him under I almost didn't do the surgery (he was only 10 months old). He was getting so many ear infections I had to do it. I loved the surgery center they were awesome. We went in early morning they do little ones first because they cannot eat before the sugery. They let us take him back to the prep room. You sit in rocking chairs and they will come in and gave him a nose spray anesthesia and in just a few seconds he was out. They take them back to the surgery and when it is time for recovery they bring you back give him to you and he wakes up in your arms. It makes it a little easier on them to see you first when they wake up. I don't think he even knew what happened. The staff was fabulous and I would recommend them to anyone. The only problem we had is that he did vomit after drinking juice (he was hungry and drank to much), but before he was doing fine (even walking around). He also had an allergic reaction to the medicine so he did get a rash it never bothered him, but it did take 4 months to go away. Best of luck!

I wouldnt worry! My son who is 16 months old has had anesthesia MANY times! The first time was when he was about 3 months old. He has had 2 MRI's both requiring anesthesia, 4 EGDS - all requiring anesthesia, and 3 surgeries. We have another one coming up on the 13th. We had problems about 3 times but he has a syndrome that is known for breathing problems. All but one time was at Cooks, his last surgery was at Childrens in Dallas. Cooks has always been great to us! With my son I refuse to do anything outside of a Children's hospital - they just have much more experience. My daughter is 2 1/2 and is a "typical child". With her I wouldn't have a problem going to a normal hospital.

Good luck with everything, she will do just fine! She may wake up a little grumpy but that will pass quickly!

I know how you feel about Cook's, however, my youngest had surgery at Cook's and my oldest son had surgery at USMD in Fort Worth and I have to tell you that my experience at USMD was by FAR much better than at Cook's. At Cook's we were in a dirty HUGE waiting room with a TON of other people waiting. The doctor came out to talk us in front of everyone - there was no privacy. At USMD, we were sent to a very calm and quiet waiting room and then were sent into a very nice private room where we spoke with our doctor. Good luck and I will pray for your family!

I have a son who was born with soft enamel on his teeth and had to deal with a similar situation when he was just shy of 2. I was extremely nervous and didn't know what to expect. Our dentist is in Arlington, but works through Cook's. We couldn't have had a better experience! My favorite part was when I walked in the recovery room to see my son with a rainbow Popsicle. They also brought him to the car in a red wagon! I definetly would recommend Cook's to you! I don't think it is strange at all! Now he is a happy 4 year old boy who loves to go to the dentist.
