I'm expecting our third child and I am seriously thinking of tying my tubes after delivery. My previous births were vaginal. Has anyone done this before for a vaginal delivery and what was it like?
Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone for your responses. I asked my Dr and was told insurance will not cover immediately after delivery. I will have to wait. No surprise there...

I had it done. It was wonderful! When they took my daughter for all of her "check-ups" after delivery (which they would have done anyways), I was rolled down the hall and into an OR. They upped my epidural. I had the surgery, and returned to my room. My daughter was returned within about 5 minutes. I was more sore and my stomach was a little more swollen. My first few days I was more sore. But, otherwise wonderful!!! And, after my 6 week post-delivery check-up.....we were REALLY ready to enjoy some adult time! :) I highly recommend it!

My sister had her tubes tied immediately after having her third child. They did it when she still had her epidural going. I waited in the room with the baby while they did it and it didn't take very long from what I remember. Her husband was at home napping while this was going on...

Our hospitial doesn't do tubal ligations so I had to wait until my 6 week checkup and be sent to another hospital for it.

But... My mom did it that way and she said that it was so much easier because everything is still pushed up.

I have also had 3 other friends and a sis in law do it the day after they delivered and left on the same day when the baby was released from the hospital.

I urge you to reconsider having the surgery now especially if you are still fairly young. I almost got a tubal after my fourth child because every one told me that was enough. I am soooo glad I did not listen. We have had other children since then and they have brought more joy to our lives than I ever could have imagined! Please, just think about it.

I did and it was no big deal. I just missed out on holding my son for a while.

I had a tubal immediately after my third was born (vaginal birth). I was glad she was born in the afternoon because they told me if she was delivered at night, I would have to wait until the next day to have the surgery. I was happy to have it done while I still had the epidural.
