Anyone Have a Futon Bunk Bed?

We are considering putting 2 Futon Bunk Beds in a vacation home. Do the bottom futons work that well? I'll go to a store and test them, but I would appreciate anyone's personal experiene with them. There are the classic twin over queen, metal frame. And there seem to be wooden ones.

I would like to buy them off of Craig's List, but if they are made like Ikea furniture, moving them usually ruins them.

Thanks for any input!

My brother had one and gave it to my grandparents for their guest room. It wouldn't be something I use every night, because putting it away every morning would get annoying (like a trundle bed), but for vacations or guests coming over, it can be very nice. Some futon mattresses are cheap and uncomfortable, others are pretty nice. The one my brother had was really good quality. So, it just depends. You can always trash the mattress on a craigslist find and get a new one.

We have a metal one and a wood one. We like the wood one better - sturdier..

My kids LOVE their beds...they can have friends over and sit and talk in their rooms or they can sleep there.

For the bottom futon, I would STRONGLY suggest getting a REAL GOOD like 8 or 10 mattress for it...makes a WORLD of difference...

Hey I have an "old" one (Just a couple years old, most of it's life has been spent in storage) if you want it! I hate the damn thing (I'm not a great sales woman). It's okay to sleep on every once in a while, but I used it as my main bed to sleep in every night. That metal frame just dug into my back... I didn't get a great nights sleep on that thing.

Edited To Add - After reading Cheryl's response, I would like to say that I had an 8 inch foam mattress... So definitely go for the 10.

We had one of the big metal ones that came out in the mid 90's. top bunk regular twin mattress bottom bunk futon that was either like a couch or pulled out to be a queen bed. we used it only when absolutely had to. very uncomrotable but it was more like a pillow not a mattress so very uncomfortable. i think the mattress/pad has come a long way since then.
