Anyone Have a Child with Asperger Syndrome

My son has not been diagnoised yet but we suspect that he will be soon. Our 8 year does not act normal for his age and is very inappropriate with his actions at times. After years of struggling with him in school and behavior we have finally found some light at the end of the tunnel with just having him diagnoised with a disablity. Are there other mothers in the East Valley area with children that have this as well? I am interested in meeting other mothers/kids for support. I would like to know if you are a SAHM or do you work? I need to know what is better for our son.

What can I do next?

Hi B.. I have a 3 year old son with High Functioning Autism. He was dx at 2 years 4 months. I'm on several yahoo groups and autism-pdd.net board. There is no playgroups that I'm aware of. But there is a Parents Night Out group - one for moms and one for dads and they meet between Mesa and Gilbert. I'm currently a sahm, but might be working with other autistic children like my son, in the future.

B.,
I'm sorry, I don't have personal experience with parenting a disabled child, but since no one has replied yet I didn't want you to feel alone...
I have a friend who's daughter has been diagnosed with a few different behavioral issues, and she has a nephew who has aspergers. I'll try to contact her ASAP (she works two part-time jobs ~ one at a preschool, the other for her sister-in-law, both are fairly flexible with her).
I know they've taken her to a "clinic" and have been very pleased with the results. She and her husband have attended seminars that helped them to parent a child with behavioral problems and it seems there has been a great improvement in the past year.
Anyway, so sorry your family is having to deal with this, I know that it can feel lonely and there are always people giving advice without understanding the whole problem.
Hang in there!
S.
